Voting is open on the Frag Shack Forum. Come and vote for your LAN date. I've taken the 10th off the voting list, so we don't conflict (yet again!) with the WNY LAN at B.Ob.'s place.

http://home.businesswire.com/portal/site/g...amp;newsLang=en Blizzard previously announced that this first expansion set for World of Warcraft®: The Burning Crusade sold through nearly 2.4 million copies worldwide in its first 24 hours -- more than any other PC game in history had sold within an entire first month of availability. The half-empty part of the story is that about 5 million WoW subscribers have not gone for the expansion, but that's the kind of problem only a game with 8.5 million subscribers can have. I wonder how much bonus cash the dev guys get...I need to get a degree in software development!! I could probably xfer 1/2 my credits towards one.

Things to Say When You're Losing a Technical Argument 10 I had one of the interns try that approach for another project, and it scrambled the CEO's hard drive. So I think it's going to be a hard sell. 11 Yes, well, that's just not the way things work in the real world. 12 I like your idea. Why don't you write up a white paper and we'll review it at the next staff meeting? 13 Unfortunately, we're an all-FORTH shop. Otherwise, it's a nice idea.

AMD to open CrossFire? "Since its introduction, CrossFire, the multi-GPU platform from AMD (formerly ATI), has only been available on certain AMD core logic, along with Intel i975X and P965. HKEPC is now reporting that AMD may open CrossFire to any chipset with two 16x PCI Express slots, including those from NVIDIA, SiS and VIA. Such a move does fit with AMD's statements during the merger with ATI that it would remain a supporter of open platforms. No timeframe is given for the change, but considering that Dell once offered a machine with an nForce motherboard and two AMD video cards in CrossFire, it does not seem far-fetched." R600 delays point to problems "B…

BitTorrent Opens Online Store "BitTorrent's service is stocked with 5,000 movies, TV shows, PC games and music." "BitTorrent will use digital rights management (DRM) technology from Microsoft that will prevent protected content from being redistributed on the Internet or played on a different PC, according to The New York Times. Content will play through Windows Media Player 11, Microsoft's multimedia application. Some content, however, will not have DRM, BitTorrent said."' Sell outs!

Missing laptop found in ET hunt James Melin, a software programmer for a county government agency in Minnesota, runs SETI(at)home on his seven home computers. One of the computers on which Melin installed SETI(at)home is his wife's laptop, which was stolen from the couple's Minneapolis home Jan. 1. Melin monitored the SETI(at)home database to see if the stolen laptop would "talk" to the Berkeley servers. Indeed, the laptop checked in three times within a week, and Melin sent the IP addresses to the Minneapolis Police Department. After a subpoena to a local Internet provider, police determined the real-world address where the stolen laptop was logging on. Within days, off…
