So I have been having issue with my Sound Blaster X-Fi card since day one, really funky issues. First I had issues installing the drivers, used the web drivers right off the bat and detected the card, reboot static. The static issue was in gaming mode on reboots all the time, came and went in other modes. but could switch modes and it went away sometimes. Next I rebooted one day after resetting my bois from a OC that was to aggressive and had to reset the bois. Rebooted and no sound, even though I set all bios setting back to where I had them. The sound icon was missing from the tray and and device manger showed the xfi card was installed still. So I removed all t…

But if you disable your sound card, are your 3dmark scores higher? That is all that really matters, lol. You posted a 3dmark06 score of 7000 something with your current rig with CF 1950's...I was getting over 9100 with my 1800s (default clocks).

Basically I bought this monster LCD to play on and my current hardware cant smoothly push the native rez for a lot of games. Soooo.... What would you folks recommend if I were to build a new system right now. Im currently doing some reading and newegg searching getting my ideas set. However Im a bit out of the current tech news and info so catch up can take a bit What do you guys consider hot and worthwhile. Lastly, Im more of a semi-budget wont buy newest biggest tech as I think the price is simply ridiculous vs. performance gains. So while Im looking at core 2 duo CPU's I probably wont touch the "extreme" versions as they seem just totally out of whack …

The AM2 motherboards im finding all say the memory they use are ddr2 800, can someone plug in something like ddr2 1100 in the same place and would it work? (theory keeping the memory speed in sync or faster than the FSB) To my techinical memory putting faster memory into a slower slot should work just want a definant answer.

Hey all. Basically Im getting ready to put a solid overclock on my e6600. Winter time temps dont look to be a problem but when summer heats things up it might be a little much for stock. Does anyone have suggestions on good air cooling I could buy thats not too harsh on the budget and just as importantly not too loud ? I could also consider water but dont have experience with it yet and im seeing it to be somewhat expensive by comparison. Any suggestions or input is appreciated as always. Thanks, Wayne

I added a drive and migrated from Raid 0 to Raid 5 using 3 sata drives now. I like the performance of Raid 0 a lot plus the piece of mind of redundancy is great. Using xp64 too w/ 4gb ram. My temps have gone up a bit on my quad core but I did read that Raid 5 is a bit more demanding on the cpu than other raids. I will be adding a 4th drive probably next week since I have also read that going from a 3 drive raid 5 to a 4 drive raid 5 increases performance by about 25%.

Video RAM - how much do you really need? "Ah, the good old days of 4MB of EDO DRAM. Amazing that ten years of development have made it utterly useless - the main menu screen of Crysis needs 20x that amount of VRAM alone."

Ok after all this talk of new video cards and 45nm processors, I'm going to design a rig that has no business to exist except to have a big E-penis. I'm going to call it Dexter (Ed Murphy Raw). TEC Cooling QX9650 quad core processor 45nm 3ghz (will oc to probably 5ghz w/ TEC cooling) w/ 12mb L2 cache. DDR3 PC 12800 ram 2x1gb (1600mhz) x2 ATI HD 3870 12GB Iram Raid 0 for OS (3 Iram cards w/ 4gb each) Raid 0 for apps Raid 10 for files Probably going to use and extended ATX case of some sort, so keep your eyes peeled for funky looking cases that stand out... I'll need help w/ that one. I just have to find a motherboard now that will be CrossfireX compatibl…
