CrossFireX preview AMD's CrossFireX: Tri & Quad GPU Preview "Looking at four-GPU scaling, as represented by two Radeon HD 3870 X2s in tandem, pushing 3x a single 3870's performance is highly dependent upon the title and resolution. Only Half-Life 2: Episode 2 manages it, just, with the other games scaling to around 2.5x. Crysis scaling, though, is horrendous, and that's a problem in itself, considering just how popular the game is."

Wii to Displace Xbox 360 by End of 2008 "Nintendo's popular Wii game console will displace Microsoft's Xbox 360 as the new-generation game machine, iSuppli said Thursday. The market researcher forecasted that the global installed base of Wii game consoles will rise to 30.2 million units in 2008, up from 18 million in 2007, putting it ahead of the Xbox 360's projected 25.7 million units. The Wii is already riding a wave of popularity that saw it win the greatest growth among new game consoles last year, according to iSuppli figures. There were only 3.2 million units in people's homes at the end of 2006, jumping to 18 million at the end of last year. The Xbox 36…

Optimus Maximus: at long last, we bring one home to test "It's the damndest thing: years after seeing the renders we're actually finally writing this post on our very own Optimus Maximus. We've had ours for a few weeks for testing, but we weren't able to do a whole lot with it until we got some later firmware updates. Here's the preliminary report: The OLED displays look really good, and are bright and colorful, just like we'd hoped."

Huge Success! Portal 2 Confirmed "On tonight's episode of X-Play, lead designer for Portal, Kimberly Swift, confirmed that there will be a Portal 2. This is pretty much a given as Doug Lombardi, Valve's Director of Marketing, had previously stated that "more Portal is definitely on the way." However, until now we weren't sure if this would be in the form of a direct sequel or possibly downloadable content. Well, now we know. Check out the video for the confirmation."

Nvidia Readies 3-Way SLI Technology "Nvidia is stepping up efforts on getting 3-way SLI ready for launch on Nov 12th. However, to get 3-way SLI up and running, there are a few requirements. Firstly you need a 3-way SLI drivers. Secondly, you need either a 680i SLI or the upcoming 780a/780i SLI board with at least 3 PCIe x16 slots. Thirdly, you need either GeForce 8800 Ultra or GeForce 8800 GTX cards as these cards have 2 SLI connectors on each card. Even the upcoming G92 cards will not support since it has only 1 SLI connector. Fourthly, you would need a 3-way SLI bridge card."

Hacking Your Xbox 360 Fan "Unable to source a replacement DVD-ROM drive that might run more quietly than the stock product, we settled for replacing the 360's fan with a quieter model—which, as a bonus, glows green. While the DVD-ROM drive will still make our ears ring as we play games that cause it to spin up, toning down the fan noise will help when playing Xbox Live Arcade games or enjoying downloaded or streamed movies or music, which don't trigger the optical drive."
