From Steam We've almost completely wrapped up the next big release for Team Fortress 2, which will focus on the Pyro class, along with the Meet the Sniper movie. We've spent time looking at how the recent Medic release went, and have rolled feedback from that release into the new item designs for the Pyro and into the design of the achievements required to unlock those items. One item, shown here in concept form, will be the Axtinguisher. Although it does about half of normal damage to standard run-of-the-mill non-burning enemies, once you light someone on fire the Axtinguisher will guarantee a critical hit. Along with all of the new content, we're also going to b…

  5. Well, Team WNYGamesClub only has 3 members. That's pathetic imo. Everyone should at least signup even if are not going to run a server farm. I only have 1 computer on 24/7, but that yields 10 results a day. It's not noticably negative performance wise and is actually a good burnin for OC'ers. I recommend the BOINC client. Comon, I dropped a Top 10 team for WNYG...let's GO GO GO!! ...and dont be intimidated by PurSuit's points, he only has a 400x point advantage on me currently for Team WNYG.

I'm wondering... What do you all think about using one of our many spare computers laying around to host a Teamspeak or Ventrilo server for us to easily get up online for a frag session in between our monthly events... Just throwing it out there. And actually, now that I think about it, a friend of mine owns a computer consulting business and he has a public TS we could use if we wanted to.

  7. The 15 Biggest Tech Disappointments of 2007 #2. What Is It Good For: The High-Def Format War Did we learn nothing from VHS vs. Betamax, CD-R vs. CD-RW, DVD-A vs. SACD, and so on down the line? At least the warring DVD camps worked out a compromise in the mid-90s that allowed everyone to profit from the new movie format (though it took them a while). Not so in HD land, where a take-no-prisoners attitude on both sides has left consumers cold. It will be a snowy day in Video Hell before we'll put our money down on either format.

  8. Things to Say When You're Losing a Technical Argument 10 I had one of the interns try that approach for another project, and it scrambled the CEO's hard drive. So I think it's going to be a hard sell. 11 Yes, well, that's just not the way things work in the real world. 12 I like your idea. Why don't you write up a white paper and we'll review it at the next staff meeting? 13 Unfortunately, we're an all-FORTH shop. Otherwise, it's a nice idea.

  11. Most all of us have been there. We look up in the rear view mirror to witness the seizure-inducing flash of red and blue lights (or sometimes just blue). The adrenaline starts pumping and our stomachs turn over. We're already asking questions of ourselves before we even face the officer's. What did I do? Why won't this flatfoot give me 25mph over like all the other cops? What if he finds the kilo of heroin in the glove box? What if he finds the two Peruvian belly-dancers in the trunk? Did I pay my insurance last month? If I slip him a 50(cent CD, pirated), will he let me go? Well, here are ten tips to make sure that both you and the officer(s) have a f…

  12. Tenomichi 3D Edit Review "Like Pinnacle Liquid Edition, Tenomichi’s software harnesses the power of the system’s 3D graphics accelerator. But it does so at a much more fundamental level. In particular, it takes advantage of the power of DirectX 9 Shaders. These are algorithms that use the pixel-shader units in the graphics processors in modern graphics cards - designed to accelerate image processing. The latest graphics chips from ATI and Nvidia have 16 of these units, so it’s theoretically possible to render a lot of video effects at once. But Tenomichi has gone one step further. Not only is DirectX 9 3D acceleration used to power the rendering of effects, it’s …
