ATI Radeon X800 XT Mac Edition versus GeForce 6800 Ultra and Others "I'm very impressed with the performance of the ATI Radeon X800 XT Mac Edition. It's equal to or faster than the GeForce 6800 Ultra in every test but one, yet costs $100 less and uses only one slot. Yes. It is half the length and half the thickness of the GeForce 6800 Ultra." The BEST is the pic of the two cards!!!!

  3. Age of Empires to support SM 3.0 "High Dynamic Range lighting, as featured in the latest Far Cry patch, will be used in the game to render the lush landscapes of the colonial age in which the game is set. Whilst Doom 3 had a hidden option to toggle self-shadowing, AOE3 will come with that feature fully built into the engine, meaning that ships and soldiers will be shaded more realistically than ever. We fully expect that this will be the first in a wave of DX9/SM3 announcements this year, as the in-game engines finally catch up to the hardware released last year."

  6. Virus hooks onto CNN headlines "E-mails laden with the virus, dubbed "Crowt.A" by Sophos, do not have a typical subject line and other characteristics, Sophos said. Instead, the virus sends out e-mail messages with subject lines, message content and attachment names drawn from the latest news headlines on CNN's Web site, which it gathers as it spreads. Very few Sophos customers have reported that they been affected by Crowt.A so far, the company said." Here is one for PurSuiT: Beware the Evil Twin "In essence, users think they've logged on to a wireless hotspot connection when, in fact, they've been tricked to connect to an attacker's unauthorised base statio…

NVIDIA and Sony Joint Developments "Anna (X-bit labs): As far as I know NVIDIA may claim that there was not that much investment into the RND: only about 50 engineers. Is this the result of the fact that Sony’s own engineers contributed to the development of the GPU in a significant way? David Roman: We do not disclose anything on the actual resources. Obviously there is a major economy of scale. This chip is a custom version of our next generation GPU. So we’ve been working on the next generation GPU for close to two years now, namely about 18 months. I don’t know the cost of this one but I know the cost of the last generation: it was 350 million dollars. These a…

NWN 2 General Discussion "1. What is the biggest challenge you are facing right now developing NWN2? Our current big challenge is that we are switching gears from pre-production to full production. The game plan is set, so we're deciding what systems go "online" at what point. Regardless of the production stage, however, the toolset is robust enough for us to make our levels and dialogues, and to set up our quests, although there may be multiple passes through some of the levels as new features are implemented and become available to us. There are a lot of industry veterans on our team and most projects go through this phase - we've got good plans in place to dea…

  11. NVIDIA's SLI Shortchanges Gamers? "According to NVIDIA’s marketing, NVIDIA’s Scalable Link Interface (SLI) "can deliver as much as 2x the performance of a single GPU configuration for unparalleled gaming experiences." What NVIDIA fails to make clear, however, is that SLI currently requires NVIDIA to write driver profiles for each game to support SLI. Are all the games you want to play supported?"

Anyone know some good place/places to get switches from? I had my eye on this Asus GigaX1024P 26-port switch from NewEgg for $156 but is currently out of stock!! Hoping it comes back in stock by the end of this month thou!! My backup is this Netgear FS526T for $220. Positives for Asus: 8k mac table, no fan, port speed limiting, price. Negatives for Netgear: 4k mac table, fan, not sure about speed limiting ports, price. Basically what the above switches (sometimes referred to as Smart switches) are: 24-port 10/100 plus 2 1000 ports, with management software that allows for VLAN, port trunking, etc. I did a search in PriceWatch looking for the ASUS sw…
