I haven't kept up much with the newer hardware, so I need some help. I need ideas and suggestions for building a good gaming machine within the $400-$500 range. Of course I use it for surfing, downloading music, video, mild application use, but these are negligable as I could just pickup a p3 for $100 if I didn't game. I have a sweet 19-inch LCD with DVI-I support, so a sweet video card of course :/ pricewatch, tigerdirect, and others for the parts...what'd you guys think about ebay? Nemesis reminded me to make sure there are warranties if I do the ebay thing. thanks for any help you guys can give, kevin

Atari Facing Lawsuit by Rollercoaster Creator Troubled Atari is facing a $4.8 million lawsuit by RollerCoaster Tycoon creator Chris Sawyer, who claims the company owes him unpaid royalties. Sawyer is alleging that Atari miscalculated payments from game sales during the period 1999 to 2003. Of the $180 million generated by RollerCoaster Tycoon, Sawyer received around $30 million, but he says this is shy of the figure he ought to have received.

AMD surpasses Intel in U.S. retail stores "Intel agreed in March to recommendations issued by the Fair Trade Commission in Japan, which called on Intel to halt the practice of requiring PC makers to limit the use of competitors' chips in order to receive monetary rebates. In June, the Korea Fair Trade Commission requested documents relating to the marketing and rebate programs of an Intel foreign subsidiary. And in July, the European Commission raided Intel offices as part of an antitrust investigation."

I have more money that I expected to have to spend on my next system (too bad, eh?). anyway, what's ppl's opinions on maybe dropping the extra $$$ to go with a amd64 x2 chip vs. amd64? both are socket 939 so I could upgrade down the line, or just drop the cash now. There are some pretty nice deals on pricewatch for mobo/cpu/ram combos. I just don't know if the price difference is worth it. I'll def. be picking up a nice pci-e video card, like I said, dunno if I should splurge on a chip, specifically an amd64 x2 3800. kevin

Rootkit Takes Aim at AOL "Security researchers have identified a rootkit being spread through AOL's popular instant messaging client and AOL chat rooms. Bundled within the previously identified W32/Sdbot-ADD worm, the lockx.exe rootkit file is installed when users click on the file link within the IM window. Though neither the worm nor the rootkit file are new, it appears to be the worm's first foray into the AIM (AOL's Instant Messenger) network. What's more troubling is that rootkits haven't previously been spread via IM." This is a NASTY one, so make sure you update the AIM client if you use it!!!

Death Race mod for UT2k4 "After our brief (haha) "fear of the law" induced hiatus it's time to get this show back on the road. Just a couple of spangly new screenshots for you to check out. Firstly, we have the nifty looking Warthog (take that Master Chief, we nicked your rides name. Have we no shame?) a 4x4 perfect for those off the road, on the pavement jaunts. Secondly we have a few different camera angle shots and finally we have a top-down, wireframe layout of Muff City. The tiny, hard to see, yellow dots are the size of the Eagle X, just slightly larger than the Scorpion in retail UT2004. Gives you an idea of the scope of this map."

Zalman's CNPS9500 LED CPU cooler "Zalman has been producing funky CPU coolers for some time, and while some of the company's designs are outlandish to the point of impracticality, the CNPS9500 LED has been designed with broad compatibility in mind.
