AMD Demonstrates 4x4 Enthusiast System "This morning, the home office of AMD demonstrated a 4x4 enthusiast system, affectionately referred to as the “Quad Father”, running a variety of different multi-threaded applications. Upgrade your UPS! "Something as beautiful as my original DIY UPS would, of course, be cheap at any price, but the thing itself didn't cost me much. I had almost all of the bits sitting around already, and a local battery place gwwwwwwwwwave me the slightly used fancy battery."

"In a move that will be good for Redmond but may have consequences for the rest of us, Microsoft has acquired Winternals and Sysinternals. This gives them well-known developers Mark Russinovich and Bryce Cogswell as well as dozens of well-loved and much-praised utilities, both commercial and freeware. Though Mark says on his blog that the Sysinternals site will remain 'for the time being,' this would be a good time to download the latest version of essential Windows tools like Process Explorer before they can go mysteriously missing or be locked up behind the wall of Windows Genuine Advantage." I live for these apps...it's gonna blow when they are gone.

"Recently we have been getting more glimpses at GPU-accelerated physics, and it raises doubts about Ageia in both the long and short run. Both Nvidia and ATI have been working with Havok, a company which you might have heard of. Havok has been developing and implementing game development tools and engines; its product list includes gameplay physics engines with multi-core and multi-thread support. Now it also has an effects physics engine called Havok FX, which is being used by ATI and Nvidia for their effects physics hardware acceleration."

Multi-GPU World Tour 2006, Part 3 - Choosing the right motherboard "When building a complete system the choice of the components of course is very important. Many concentrate on picking a good CPU and video card but forget that the road to a stable and fast system starts with the motherboard. If you plan on building a system for two video cards the choice is pretty simple; a motherboard using NVIDIA’s SLI-technology or a motherboard using ATI’s Crossfire technology."
