Measuring the Benefits of AGP: Is PCI-Express Necessary? "During Computex we saw photos of several Intel 925x boards equipped with both PCI Express and AGP slots. Since Intel’s new chipset doesn’t offer simultaneous support for PCI-E and AGP, there was a serious question as to how Gigabyte and ECS (the two manufacturers with boards on display) were accomplishing it." ... ... ... "For the gamer, however, PCI-Express is going to be a non-issue. Given that most games today barely stress the AGP 2x bus, moving to double AGP 8x isn’t going to do anything. It’s the equivalent of widening a highway no one drives on. Had AGP developed in the direction it was intended…

While not made specifically for PC-enthusiasts, the system features an advanced cooling system that can handle high-speed processors as well as the fastest and most power-hungry graphics and add-in cards and hard drives." Apple to ditch IBM, switch to Intel chips "Apple has used IBM's PowerPC processors since 1994, but will begin a phased transition to Intel's chips, sources familiar with the situation said. Apple plans to move lower-end computers such as the Mac Mini to Intel chips in mid-2006 and higher-end models such as the Power Mac in mid-2007, sources said."

alright been haveing a light crashing issue, havent veen able to figure it out since my Aopen a77-8xn has a built in hardware controled breaker/ kill switch and never gave me a error except that of a pc speaker alarm, witch i found is for when something overheats per the manual basically after installing some hardware monators i found 2 things 1)the chipset, via k400, was over heating 2) the -5 volt from the power is sitting at -6.1 vts the +5 is sitting at about 4.2 the heating problem fixed with the install of a fan on the heat sink of system controler but made me think the -6 may be over charging the chipset and over heating it. after getting …

High-Performance Power Supply Units "The new power supply standard ATX12V 2.01 necessitates a new power supply for PCIe systems, which is reason enough for THG to put the latest devices to the test. We are particularly concerned with efficiency values, an aspect that is frequently overlooked. The more efficient the power supply is, the less energy is converted to heat inside the unit. Less heat means the fans inside the unit spin more slowly while kicking out the same level of power, which translates into significantly less noise. Less heat also means that the components of the supply are under less strain, thus boosting the life of the power supply as well as that of…

Hard Drives: ATA versus SATA "The future of SATA holds great things for those wanting even more speed, as drives with 300 MB/second transfer rates (SATA II) will be readily available in 2005, and by 2008 speeds of up to 600 MB/second can be expected. Those speeds are incredible, and are hard to imagine at this point. Another performance benefit found on SATA drives is their built-in hot-swap capabilities. SATA drives can be brought on and offline without shutting down the computer system, providing a serious benefit to those who can’t afford downtime, or who want to move drives in and out of operation quickly. The higher number of wires in the power connection is pa…
