Microsoft to end 64-bit Windows endurance test in one month "After years of delays, Microsoft will deliver a pair of 64-bit operating systems within the next month. Honest. Jim Allchin, Microsoft's SVP of platforms, promised to ship the Windows Server 2003 Standard x64 Edition and Windows XP Professional x64 Edition operating systems "in about a month." These operating systems - one for servers and one for workstations - will work with x86-64-bit chips from both AMD and Intel. They should help Microsoft catch up with Unix and Linux OS makers that already have 64-bit OSes available."

10Gigabit over Copper (February 2004) "The company has demonstrated the first augmented Category 6 cable in the world with the necessary characteristics to enable 10Gigabit/s Ethernet to be implemented over unshielded twisted pair (UTP) to the full 100 meteres required for structured cabling systems." Foundry Networks interview (13 Oct 2003) "Are you working on 40Gb Ethernet? We're working on 10Gb Ethernet over copper - that needs to be solved first. There are two technologies, a co-ax called CX4 and 10GbBase-T. CX4 is almost here, but I'm not a big fan, because it's co-ax cable. Every time Ethernet uses co-ax it has always been a short-lived solution. 10GbB…

High-Performance Power Supply Units "The new power supply standard ATX12V 2.01 necessitates a new power supply for PCIe systems, which is reason enough for THG to put the latest devices to the test. We are particularly concerned with efficiency values, an aspect that is frequently overlooked. The more efficient the power supply is, the less energy is converted to heat inside the unit. Less heat means the fans inside the unit spin more slowly while kicking out the same level of power, which translates into significantly less noise. Less heat also means that the components of the supply are under less strain, thus boosting the life of the power supply as well as that of…

New Indy Games On the Horizon! Game Informer: LucasArts used to be known for making really unique original properties like "Day of the Tentacle," then feel back primarily on STAR WARS products exclusively. Are original games going to be a bigger focus for the company? Jim Ward: "We have three main goals. One is to re-stimulate the STAR WARS IP with high quality games. Secondly we're going to reinvigorate the Indiana Jones IP, which basically has been stagnant for years. There's no reason that Indiana Jones can't be a James Bond and have a year-in, year-out great representation of that brand, and take the advantage of the fact that in the next couple of years, ther…

http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/article/1787/ Wow that's crazy for the P4's latest chip to beat the AMD Athlon 64 FX55 it has to be clocked at 5.2ghz which is twice the clock speed of the AMD chip which only runs @2.6ghz. "Not surprising the Pentium 4 needs quite a boost in clock speed before it is able to convincingly beat the Athlon 64 FX55, at a clock speed of no less than 5.2GHz there’s no doubt about who takes the performance crown. And yes, that’s double the clock speed of the Athlon 64 FX55 processor which runs at a mere 2.6GHz. It has to be said though that reaching a 5.2GHz clock speed isn’t for the faint of heart; the motherboard chipset and mem…

AMD Demos Dual-Core Athlon 64 "The latest shoe to drop in the race toward multicore technology came today from AMD, which says it has demonstrated a working dual-core version of its Athlon 64 desktop processor. The dual-core Athlon 64 runs at a clock-speed of 2.4 GHz and has a maximum power dissipation of 100 W."
