ATI Extends its Line of High-end Graphics Cards

"ATI Technologies Inc. (TSX:ATY)(NASDAQ:ATYT) today enhanced its family of graphics products for gamers and enthusiast PC users by announcing and shipping AGP versions of its popular RADEON® X800 XL graphics cards and RADEON® X850 XT graphics processors.

The RADEON X800, X800 XL and X850 Series visual processors originally debuted in December for PCI Express based systems. PCI Express is rapidly replacing AGP in new PC's as the primary interconnect technology between the main processor and the graphics subsystem. These new AGP variants will allow users who have not yet upgraded to PCI Express to experience the same great performance and image quality."

"Participating in events like this gives us the opportunity to find out what gamers want and need for competitive gaming," said Rich Heye, Vice President and GM, Desktop Discrete Products, ATI. "And to say thanks for supporting ATI, we are giving attendees at this event an opportunity to check out the world's first 512MB gaming cards before we send them out to our software partners for development of next-generation games."

"It appears that the video card is not just a Gainward-only technology - from the looks of the pictures it seems to be an NVIDIA reference board, however this is just our speculation. It is also worth noting that there is a new power layout at the end of the board, much different to previous versions of the GeForce 6800 series on both AGP and PCI-Express."
