I guess this is relevant here. I wrote a batch file to shutdown unnecessary processes and free up system resources from idle processes. I use it when playing games and a few others have asked me for it, so I thought I'd post it up for anyone that wants it. Copy the code into a text file. Rename the file taskkill.cmd. Open a CMD prompt and CD to the location you saved the file. Run it as Taskkill -list and it will generate a list of your currently running processes at the bottom of the batch file. Open it and remove any system processes or anything you want to leave running. Afterwards, just run it by double clicking the file or directly from the cmd prompt as taskkill. At…

I am playing the beta for Tabula Rasa by NCsoft and it's a hell of a lot of fun. Think WoW w/ much better graphics and more logical quests, Think Star Wars Galaxies, but better graphics and better game play, Think City of Heroes and a bit of SWG for the combat.

Talking nasty with Tim Sweeney "Question 3: Are there any good "3D capture" technologies available, e.g. a camera that can take a photo and triangulate it and upload it to 3D studio, for example? Do you envision such products ever (next decade or so) make a major impact in the game development world? Tim: We looked into several off-the-shelf 3D capture solutions, and didn't find anything that was worth using. The polygon data they output is so rough that it typically requires more effort to clean-up the data than to create similar data from scratch using a modeling program. However, we just looked at the $5K-$20K solutions. There are $100K 3D laser scanners that …

I had an incredible weekend. The International Taoist Tai Chi Society has this beautiful temple and Tai chi center about an hour west of Toronto (2 hour drive from my house actually) and I had probably one of the most incredible weekends of my life there. I studied the Taoist Tai Chi set under Tony Quan who is an extremely well know international instructor. He actually lives and teaches in Toronto too so I'm going to go to his class again on Tuesday most likely but this weekend was Tai chi instruction from 10 am to 10 pm on Saturday and until noon on Sunday. It was very enlightening and just an incredible experience. It was a SERIOUS workout and my legs, back, arms,…

Now taxes really can bug you "But if you're one of the millions who this year have used the electronic services of Intuit's TurboTax or H&R Block, you may not know that a stealthy technology commonly known as Web bugs was used to track your comings and goings on the Internet."
