"The adventures of Van Helsing" & "PayDay 2" are two Steam games that have caught my eye & offer Co-Op play, so they'll be very entertaining at LAN Parties. Van Helsing is out now @ $14.99 while PayDay 2 will be out sometime in August. Val Helsing looks like an absolute blast to play from the videos I've seen. Thoughts? Who's getting what games(s)? I plan on getting both. -- Nem

ATI's X1950 XTX set to pump up the pixels ATI new X1650 PRO to launch in August Is Ageia's PhysX Failing? "Recently we have been getting more glimpses at GPU-accelerated physics, and it raises doubts about Ageia in both the long and short run. Both Nvidia and ATI have been working with Havok, a company which you might have heard of. Havok has been developing and implementing game development tools and engines; its product list includes gameplay physics engines with multi-core and multi-thread support. Now it also has an effects physics engine called Havok FX, which is being used by ATI and Nvidia for their effects physics hardware acceleration."

Video RAM - how much do you really need? "Ah, the good old days of 4MB of EDO DRAM. Amazing that ten years of development have made it utterly useless - the main menu screen of Crysis needs 20x that amount of VRAM alone."

nVidia Graphic Drivers to go Multithreaded "Most imminent on the horizon right now is ForceWare release 75, which will bring a number of improvements for SLI performance and 64-bit Windows, among other things, but release 75 will not be multithreaded. The next major iteration of the driver, release 80, is slated to bring support for multiple threads. We may not see this version for a few months; NVIDIA hasn't given an exact timetable for the completion of release 80."

Video Game Tax Coming to a State Near You? http://news.zdnet.com/2100-9595_22-6229759.html The New Mexico legislature has introduced a new tax measure, HB583, that would force consumers to pay a 1 percent excise tax on purchases of video games, gaming consoles, and TVs. True to the aim of the measure, they have even given the bill the creative title, "The Leave No Child Inside Act."

Brain Scans Reveal Video Gamers' Secrets How adeptly you play a video game may indicate how big some parts of your brain are. Researchers found that certain regions of the brain are larger in young people who do a better job of playing a specially designed video game. In other words, all those people who devote their days to their Wiis and XBoxes may be packing some cerebral heat, at least when it comes to the sheer size of what's inside their skulls. Verghese said it would have been interesting to know if the video game training itself changed the sizes of those brain regions or boosted their activity. As for the future, researchers are trying to figure out how to he…

First-person shooters singled out for potential therapeutic benefits. "Researchers at the University of Rochester in New York have announced findings claiming that playing games, specifically those oriented around action, improve contrast sensitivity function (CSF); that is, the ability to detect subtle differences in shades of grey." "While the same researchers had previously found that games improved visual acuity and peripheral vision, the ability to improve contrast sensitivity is significant, given that it was previously held among the scientific community that it could not be improved. CSF ability is often affected by old age or amblyopia--commonly known as …
