Hey folks... been a while since I've been around the forums. Anyway, I've been interested in ArmA II since seeing the trailer a long while back, and the release is now just around the corner. (It goes live on Steam, tomorrow at 8pm) While the game looks uber-complicated, and I'm perfectly content with wasting most my time in COD4/5 at the moment, I figured what the hell - why not insert another brain drain? Any WNY gamers out there looking at ArmA II as well? Another club I'm in, OTC, has some interest growing. I'm likely to configure our server in the next couple weeks with an instance of ArmA, depending on the resource requirements versus all the other crap …

  3. This goes to the people that have been posting the past few days: Has the forums been slow or timing out for anyone besides me? At best, its a it little slow, and its the same for me at home or accessing the forums from work. I know the router has been of questionable reliability lately and I have a brand new replacement on my desk here, ready to go in when I get home. I made some changes to the forums to cut down on its load, but no change for me so far... If it ends up being the unix box, I'm gonna beat that thing like a "Fax machine from Office Space" after we get the new box running properly. *TEST EDIT* now that the new router is in place... same. Grrr…

The Artistic Stylings of Team Fortress 2 (PC) "Artistically, the team really focused on what they called the "read hierarchy." In other words, what information you can tell from a character at a glance, from most obvious to less obvious. "Team" was most important, so the red and blue teams have very distinct palettes. Next is class, which the designers wanted to be obvious even from silhouette. The character's shape, body proportions and clothes all convey the character's class with broad strokes. Last in the read hierarchy is what weapon the character is carrying. To draw your eye to the weapon, the highest-contrast area of a character is at chest level, and the char…

Since I bought a 2nd ASUS 3870x2, I will be returning the 3870 that is in the mail to me. I paid a total cost of $140 for it (tax and shipping darn newegg) and I'm going to return it if nobody wants to buy it for around $115 or so. I'll have a 15% restocking fee I think returning it to them. I couldn't pass up the deal again on the 3870x2... I'm not sure what all is coming with it and I think it comes to me in the mail by about Wednesday next week. Let me know by Thursday the 21st or I'll just return it. Thanks Frag hard!

ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe Board “VoodooPC is known for using only the fastest and most reliable equipment on the market with our PCs. The ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe is exactly what we look for in our systems, and it echoes very well with our image. It’s stable, but most importantly it blows the doors off the competition in performance and features,” said Rahul Sood, President and CTO of VoodooPC.

  12. Asus attacks Creative where it hurts "It seems that Creative is finally getting some competition, and Asus has made a move. With two high-end models, Asus wants to compete with Creative's X-Fi but plans to offer higher-quality drivers for all targeted operating systems from day one. It will sell two boards, with Xonar D2X being the more intriguing."

  13. ASUS Creates Upgradeable Graphics Cards "The vision of upgradeable graphic cards goes back to the late 1990s, when Micron Technology was experimenting with removable sockets. In 2006, both MSI and Gigabyte showcased upgradeable graphic cards, but their concepts, which were based on GeForce Go MXM boards, never took off. Earlier this year, Asus introduced a single board with three MXM slots for ATI Mobility Radeon 3850 or 3870 cards (upgradeable with future parts), and has now unveiled its single-MXM product."

Hard Drives: ATA versus SATA "The future of SATA holds great things for those wanting even more speed, as drives with 300 MB/second transfer rates (SATA II) will be readily available in 2005, and by 2008 speeds of up to 600 MB/second can be expected. Those speeds are incredible, and are hard to imagine at this point. Another performance benefit found on SATA drives is their built-in hot-swap capabilities. SATA drives can be brought on and offline without shutting down the computer system, providing a serious benefit to those who can’t afford downtime, or who want to move drives in and out of operation quickly. The higher number of wires in the power connection is pa…
