While not made specifically for PC-enthusiasts, the system features an advanced cooling system that can handle high-speed processors as well as the fastest and most power-hungry graphics and add-in cards and hard drives." The beginning of the end for ATX?!

Ok, here's the story: Gigabyte GA-7VTXE (VIA 266a) motherboard, Athlon XP Palamino 1800+, 3 sticks of 256Meg 266MHz DDR, 270 watt power stupply, GeForce3 Ti 200, Kingston nic, SB Live. Above system stops working after pc box gets punched. All fans spin, no post from pc, no beeps. Take out: SB live, Kingston nic, 2 sticks of mem. Move the stick of mem around, same. Try a different stick of mem. same. Took out video card (so there wasn't one), same. The GB m/b has a led on it that starts yellow, then goes green after it starts POST, but now never goes green! Replace the m/b with a Chaintech 7NJL6 (nforce2), same. Try a different video card, same. Try differe…

Can Command Queuing Turbo Charge SATA? "Command queuing is also applicable to multi-threaded environments, which are growing in application. Why? Since threads are designed to run in parallel, various commands can reach a hard drive at the same time. Thus, introducing command queuing to the storage world makes more and more sense in order to accommodate an increasing amount of random access requirements inherent in multi-threaded applications. While Command Queuing has been used for a long time in the SCSI area, it is now being applied to SATA as well."

Hard Drives: ATA versus SATA "The future of SATA holds great things for those wanting even more speed, as drives with 300 MB/second transfer rates (SATA II) will be readily available in 2005, and by 2008 speeds of up to 600 MB/second can be expected. Those speeds are incredible, and are hard to imagine at this point. Another performance benefit found on SATA drives is their built-in hot-swap capabilities. SATA drives can be brought on and offline without shutting down the computer system, providing a serious benefit to those who can’t afford downtime, or who want to move drives in and out of operation quickly. The higher number of wires in the power connection is pa…

High-Performance Power Supply Units "The new power supply standard ATX12V 2.01 necessitates a new power supply for PCIe systems, which is reason enough for THG to put the latest devices to the test. We are particularly concerned with efficiency values, an aspect that is frequently overlooked. The more efficient the power supply is, the less energy is converted to heat inside the unit. Less heat means the fans inside the unit spin more slowly while kicking out the same level of power, which translates into significantly less noise. Less heat also means that the components of the supply are under less strain, thus boosting the life of the power supply as well as that of…

alright been haveing a light crashing issue, havent veen able to figure it out since my Aopen a77-8xn has a built in hardware controled breaker/ kill switch and never gave me a error except that of a pc speaker alarm, witch i found is for when something overheats per the manual basically after installing some hardware monators i found 2 things 1)the chipset, via k400, was over heating 2) the -5 volt from the power is sitting at -6.1 vts the +5 is sitting at about 4.2 the heating problem fixed with the install of a fan on the heat sink of system controler but made me think the -6 may be over charging the chipset and over heating it. after getting …

NVIDIA Editors Day: Soundstorm "In an exclusive press briefing - the CEO of NVIDIA has just stated that we will see Soundstorm avaliable on nForce soon. This will be more than the old hat Soundstorm which was on nForce 1 and 2. NVIDIAs CEO was slightly cryptic about it being delivered, however, I think we can make an assumption that maybe the PCI-E bus has enough to deliver it as a standalone product. Here are those precious words: "We're gonna build SoundStorm 2, it's gonna be awesome," he later added to that with more information about how it will be delivered "It come in a way that you won't expect." NVIDIA chose not to do this with nForce 4 - but he for on…

950W Power Supply Units Sneak into Market "SNE, a Japanese maker of various hardware aimed at enthusiasts and overclockers, recently started to sell its 950W, 900W and 850W power supply units, claiming the world’s record PSUs. The devices, however, can draw peak wattage only in extreme cases. In typical cases the power of the PSUs is 750W, 700W and 650W respectively, which is still among the world’s top power supply units. PSUs from SNE can power typical ATX as well as EPS12V systems, which means that the devices can be used for both desktop and workstation/server computers. The power supplies are equipped with 5 connectors for Serial ATA, 4 connectors for mini-Mo…
