Unreal 3 Engine Performance With Rainbow Six: Vegas "However, that change isn't the one we're going to focus on here today but another one for the series: Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas is one of the first PC games to use the brand new Unreal 3 engine. HDR, per-pixel lighting, and a highly improved facial animation system are a few of the changes UE3 has brought with it. And while certainly there are aspects of the game that look great, with an amazing attention to detail on the character's faces, with both expressions, wrinkles, hair, and more, some aspects of the environments and textures don't look quite as stunning as one might think or even better than many Unre…

Exclusive Interview with Epics Tim Sweeny on Unreal-Engine-3 and UT 3 PCGH: Can UT 3 be played with full detail on a single core machine? Tim Sweeney: You can play UT3 at any detail level on any machine; the dependent variable is the frame rate! If you have a fast GPU (and thus aren't GPU-bound), then you'll notice significant performance gains going from a single-core PC to a dual-core PC, and incremental improvements in going to quad-core, at a constant clock rate.

UT3 In The August Issue of OXM "Aside from the gameplay shown in the video, it offered a few details about the game. It was said that the original idea was to make gigantic maps utilizing UE3's streaming technology for up to 64 players at once. They decided that it didn't feel like a UT game and went back to improving the original formula. Each map starts out as a basic BSP layout and is play tested until they think it is fun and then it is handed over to have static meshes and the rest of the artistic assets created. There will be 3 to 4 dozen multiplayer maps in the retail version of the game. The single player portion will have even more maps than multiplayer."

Unreal Tournament 3 Beta Demo Soon "Just wanted to give you a heads' up that we're getting pretty close to releasing the Unreal Tournament 3 Beta Demo for Windows. The Beta Demo will allow instant action play against bots as well as online multiplayer. The purpose of the Beta Demo is to test the game on a large variety of hardware configurations and get gameplay feedback from the community. The development team feels they're pretty close to being ready to release this so it could come out this week but for safety sake I'd say it should be out within two weeks."
