10 Mammouth CPU Coolers: Size Does Matter "CPU coolers are a necessary evil these days and we look at some of the bigger models on the market. The one illustrated above is nearly two pounds, dwarfing ten-year old coolers that weighed a few ounces. We took a look at ten different super-sized coolers and try them out on a variety of motherboards and socket combinations." Make sure you checkout Thermaltake's Big Typhoon!!!

Project Tranquillity "Tranquillity here will be used as some kind of router lab by friends in need so it will have 9 motherboards and 30+ network cards in the smallest possible volume. The construction material will be MDF so a good exercise before starting the work on the Time Machine."

Zalman's CNPS9500 LED CPU cooler "Zalman has been producing funky CPU coolers for some time, and while some of the company's designs are outlandish to the point of impracticality, the CNPS9500 LED has been designed with broad compatibility in mind. It's also been designed to do more with less, and Zalman claims that the cooler offers better performance with a 92mm fan than solutions equipped with 120mm fans. Does the CNPS9500 LED deliver? Join us as we explore the cooler's exquisite array of heat pipes and cooling fins to find out."

PCs plagued by bad capacitors "At issue are faulty capacitors on motherboards that store power and regulate voltage. Defective capacitors found in the Dell Optiplex workstations, some Apple iMac G5s, HP xw-series workstations made in 2004 and PCs with the Intel D865GBF motherboard have been found to bulge, pop, leak and crust over, causing video failure and periodic system shutdowns." They are pretty easy to repair yourself if you can use a soldering iron and find replacements CAPs!!!

How to build a gingerbread computer "Christmas is just round the corner. For some it is a chance to relax with friends and relatives and retreat from the every day hectic work pace. A common family tradition is Christmas baking and most of us have probably taken part in it at least once, with a more or less successful result. Personally, I’m not a big fan of the whole Christmas baking thing, but since my girlfriend loves it I usually end up doing it anyway."

Yes, I decided it was time to retire the clear case. Don't ask why, just time to move on. I've been drawing up plans for a new clear case for when I upgrade in Febuary, but I had a bunch of ideas that a) only work in a steel case or would only look good in a steel case. That and the clear case is getting a little heavy for my tastes. So, here's the new donor a Coolermaster CAC-T05-US Centurion C5. It was a real pain to try and find something that had everything I needed. This one came close enough. A lot of the things I'm going to do to this case just things to clean it up. I'm not going to get stupid with it and make it look like the cases you see on bit tech…

Whisky PC "I already had a powerful computer setup so I wanted something more quiet, small and low power consumptioning to function as a basic home server. I love to tinker with hardware etc. so I wanted to make something quite unique for a case. I have seen many nice and creative cases before but none of them were made out of a bottle."

The Mac Minitosh "After gutting the machine, the parts were test-fit, any suprisingly a lot of the work has already been done! The DVD drive of the Mac-mini sits perfectly against the floppy drive. The drive bezel will be extended to accomodate DVDs."

7900GT: Unlocking the Beast Within "Of course, we can presume they are speed-binned such that the better ones are used on the GTX. But this bodes well for the 7900GT owners as the potential is likely there. My initial hunch is that the 7900GT are actually supplied with lower voltages so that a very simple single slot cooling solution and a relatively modestly rated power supply can be employed for these cards."

NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX Lockup Issue Resolved "The only thing that seemed to work though was lowering the clocks back down the reference speeds NVIDIA announced of 650 MHz core, 800 MHz memory and 700 MHz vertex clock. Yes, in this case, the vertex shaders are running slightly faster than the majority of the GPU, the pixel shaders. Turns out that overclocking was one of the main instigators of this problem."

Man, you wouldn't think just changing the CPU fan would make your system unbootable... The p/s in my system is dead. no lights, no spinning of fans, nothing. Got it replaced last night and new beast is back up and happily crunching again.
