A peek inside Apple's new nano and classic iPods (photos) "The first tear-down photos taken of Apple's new third-generation iPod nano and sixth-generation iPod classic are in, revealing extensive use of adhesive inside the nano and a new support plate behind the classic's noticeably thinner display."

  2. So I was reading this on Dell's site today: Installing a filler bracket over an empty expansion slot is necessary to maintain Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certification of the system. The brackets also keep dust and dirt out of the computer and aid in proper cooling and airflow inside the computer. Am I going to get arrested if I don't replace that bracket plate? Is this one of those mattress tag laws?

  3. Intel and Micron Double Flash Storage Capacity http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/arti...meter_nand.html The 25nm process produces 8 gigabytes (GB) of storage in a single NAND device, creating a high-capacity storage solution for today's tiny consumer gadgets. It measures just 167mm2 -- small enough to fit through the hole in the middle of a compact disc (CD), yet packs more than 10 times the data capacity of that CD (a standard CD holds 700 megabytes of data)."

Getting Ready to Meet Intel Core 2 Duo: Core Microarchitecture Unleashed "Since Core Microarchitecture is designed for dual-core right from the start, the developers could optimize some functional units according of the upcoming processors accordingly. Unlike all other desktop processors available these days, CPUs with Core Microarchitecture will share their L2 cache between the cores. This cache memory works similarly to the mechanisms that you can find in today’s dual-core Intel Core Duo mobile processors."

Intel Core 2 Gaming Performance Game Over? Core 2 Duo Knocks Out Athlon 64 Intel Core 2 Duo/Extreme processor review Intel's Core 2 Extreme & Core 2 Duo: The Empire Strikes Back "Intel's Core 2 Extreme X6800 didn't lose a single benchmark in our comparison; not a single one. In many cases, the $183 Core 2 Duo E6300 actually outperformed Intel's previous champ: the Pentium Extreme Edition 965. In one day, Intel has made its entire Pentium D lineup of processors obsolete. Intel's Core 2 processors offer the sort of next-generation micro-architecture performance leap that we honestly haven't seen from Intel since the introduction of the P6."

  10. Intel's 65 nm Process Breathes Fire into Double-Core Extreme Edition "Running a multiplier of x16 allows for hitting an amazing 4.26 GHz, which is a 23% increase over the default clock speed of 3.46 GHz. At this speed, the double-core Pentium becomes noticeable warmer, but it still does not dissipate the heat levels of a 90 nm dual core Pentium D or Pentium Extreme Edition 840."

  12. New Intel quad-core chips are really double duo-cores "The move isn't a major surprise: It's the same approach the chipmaker took a generation earlier when introducing its first dual-core processors. But it does indicate the urgency Intel feels to get products--due to arrive in 2007--to market to stay competitive with Advanced Micro Devices."

Intel's 45 nm Penryn CPU: 4 GHz Air Cooled "The revision of the Conroe architecture - in order to boost its performance, incorporate new instructions, and, most importantly, reduce power consumption - is right on schedule. Until now, Intel's Core 2 processors always played second fiddle to AMD's Athlon 64 X2 processors when it came to power consumption, at least in idle operation. That was also the reason why we built our Solar-Powered PC around an AMD platform. However, this situation has changed with the Penryn core of Intel's Core 2 Extreme QX9650. Simultaneously, Intel has also made radical changes to its production process, breaking with the conventional meth…
