  1. nForce 4 SLI X16: Full Speed PCI Express "Ever since its launch in the fall of last year, nForce 4 has brought us SLI capability. Configurations for PCI Express slots in nForce 4 SLI motherboards must be selected by using a paddle that can be flipped to allow for either 2 x8 connections or full bandwidth for one with the other disabled. There is added flexibility on an nForce 4 SLI motherboard, but this flexibility comes with some limitations. Today, NVIDIA sheds the shackles of the paddle selector and limited bandwidth with the new nForce 4 SLI X16 chipset."

X-Fi and the Elite Pro: SoundBlaster's Return to Greatness "The only thing that we would really like to see that we don't is Dolby Digital Live (realtime Dolby 5.1 encoding for output over SPDIF to a receiver). With all the processing power available, there is no excuse for not supporting this feature, yet we have seen no mention of it from Creative. Dolby Digital Live may not be as hot a topic as it was back when NVIDIA supported the feature in their onboard SoundStorm audio solution, but we would still like to see it added for completeness (especially when even Intel's onboard solution can handle it)."

ATI Crossfire at Beyond3D ATI's X8xx CrossFire Graphics Arrive at Anandtech "The Crossfire system in its current implementation does have a number of positive points though. For one, when the system was fully set up its stability seemed to be very good, with no issues under Windows and very good compatibility, without any rendering issues, on all the applications tested here - even the smaller test applications worked flawlessly. The software and control side seemed to be fairly good, with the Crossfire just being enabled in Catalyst Control Centre without needing a reboot for like-for-like board configurations and the Super AA mode already integrated into the FSAA s…

  7. I haven't kept up much with the newer hardware, so I need some help. I need ideas and suggestions for building a good gaming machine within the $400-$500 range. Of course I use it for surfing, downloading music, video, mild application use, but these are negligable as I could just pickup a p3 for $100 if I didn't game. I have a sweet 19-inch LCD with DVI-I support, so a sweet video card of course :/ pricewatch, tigerdirect, and others for the parts...what'd you guys think about ebay? Nemesis reminded me to make sure there are warranties if I do the ebay thing. thanks for any help you guys can give, kevin

  9. Preview of NVIDIA Quad GPU SLI "Thanks to the PCI Express (PCIe) interface, combining two graphics cards in an SLI configuration is easily achieved. Just plug two identical GeForce 6 or GeForce 7 cards into the motherboard, and connect them with the SLI bridge connector. The two cards will then split the 3D rendering load between them, which can result in a performance improvement of up to 70 percent in everyday life. Now that PCI Express motherboards are available with PCIe x32 - or, more correctly, two x16 slots - there are also some new and intriguing possibilities."

  12. Sapphire on HDCP and HDMI "Following our previous report discussing Firing Squads HDCP article we’ve been contacted by Sapphire who presently have some experience with this issue. Sapphire are currently in the process of ramping their mass production of a line of low profile X1600 and X1300 boards specifically targeted at the High Definition Home Theater PC market with an HDMI output and HDCP built in."

This hit yesterday, but I was busy trying to read these all.... Hexus.net Toms Hardware Anand Tech.com Beyond3D HardOCP For those that would like a more indepth talk with ATI on the x1900 series: R580 Architecture Interview "If you look at apps such as 3dmark05, FEAR, D3/Q4, and many new upcoming titles, you'll see that the RV530 often doubles (or more) the performance against RV515, at the same clock. Same is true for X1900 vs X1800. Having said that, if you're running older apps, yes, the extra shaders might not benefit you as much, but again, we designed these parts for an excellent performance on current games, and an even better performance on the new…
