  5. 950W Power Supply Units Sneak into Market "SNE, a Japanese maker of various hardware aimed at enthusiasts and overclockers, recently started to sell its 950W, 900W and 850W power supply units, claiming the world’s record PSUs. The devices, however, can draw peak wattage only in extreme cases. In typical cases the power of the PSUs is 750W, 700W and 650W respectively, which is still among the world’s top power supply units. PSUs from SNE can power typical ATX as well as EPS12V systems, which means that the devices can be used for both desktop and workstation/server computers. The power supplies are equipped with 5 connectors for Serial ATA, 4 connectors for mini-Mo…

NVIDIA Editors Day: Soundstorm "In an exclusive press briefing - the CEO of NVIDIA has just stated that we will see Soundstorm avaliable on nForce soon. This will be more than the old hat Soundstorm which was on nForce 1 and 2. NVIDIAs CEO was slightly cryptic about it being delivered, however, I think we can make an assumption that maybe the PCI-E bus has enough to deliver it as a standalone product. Here are those precious words: "We're gonna build SoundStorm 2, it's gonna be awesome," he later added to that with more information about how it will be delivered "It come in a way that you won't expect." NVIDIA chose not to do this with nForce 4 - but he for on…

Intel to put 64 bits in desktops in 2005 "Intel once said desktop buyers wouldn't really need 64-bit capabilities until toward the end of the decade, but the company will make such capabilities a feature across its desktop lines next year. The Santa Clara, Calif.-based chipmaker disclosed at its analyst meeting in New York that it will include 64-bit functionality on its desktop chips starting in 2005, a schedule that roughly coincides with the release of a 64-bit version of Windows for desktops coming next year. The functionality will appear even in the budget Celeron line."

  11. Nvidia to pitch NV48 at ATI's R520 "Nvidia will launch against ATI's next-generation high-end graphics chip, the R520, in Q2 2005. So claim sources from among Taiwan's graphics card manufacturer community, cited by DigiTimes. They also allege that the part, codenamed NV48, will be fabbed by TSMC at 110nm, and not by IBM. The sources claim the move is a result of yields the Taiwanese foundry has achieved with the GeForce 6200 and 6600 chips. The shift from one manufacturing partner to another may account for the rumours that Nvidia had cancelled NV48. Certainly, the NV48 had been expected to appear late this year, according to Nvidia roadmaps doing the roun…
