ATI to Cut Prices on X850 Series "Undoubtedly, NVIDIA has remedied all product launch and availability issues with its GeForce 7 series of graphics cards. First it was the 7800GTX and now the 7800GT, NVIDIA managed to deliver both cards right when it made the announcement. Not only that, but the prices from certain vendors are dropping to fairly desirable levels pretty rapidly. Needless to say, the entire community is waiting for a rebuttal from ATI and its R520 core. ATI has been surprisingly quiet about its next generation of graphics cards, but that hasn’t stopped the community from speculating. Whatever the case may be, ATI is in a critical position right now. The…

Looking Back Pt. 2: X800 & Catalyst Under The Knife "However, while we had a good handle on the 9700 Pro and its R3xx lineage, we couldn’t help but wonder about the R420, the successor and very much the offspring of the R300 design. Built even more for shader power and based on an already strong design, could the R420 tell us something the R300 couldn’t? How did ATI handle the R420’s drivers in the face of real competition with NVIDIA’s 6000 series, versus the landslide over the 5000 series? To answer these questions and more, we’re back today once again putting the Catalyst drivers to the test, this time with the R420-based X800 Pro." Very interesting read!!!

ATI's Single-PCB Dual-GPU Plans "ATI’s upcoming RV560 and RV570 will find its way into single-board, dual-GPU CrossFire configurations. Since the GPU cores have integrated composite engines, the cards are capable of Crossfire support directly on the card."

ATI Technologies Vows to Bring Shader Model 3.0, Multi-GPU Technology "“Our [graphics] cards can already support dual-GPU configurations in such platforms as Alienware’s ALX. We have a strategy in place for dual-GPU on the chipset side but it would be premature to discuss at this time,” Mr. Carvill indicated."

ATI HDTV AIW "Once again, as with the evolution of the All-In-Wonder line, ATi is positioning impressive product. Initially we should expect to see the HDTV Wonder bundled with All-In-Wonder 9600, 9600XT and 9800 Pros and will later be offered with Radeon video cards."

Interview with ATI's Richard Huddy and Kevin Strange "All of us here at ATI share these guys' passion for games and it's my responsibility to make sure that we help predict as well as solve developers' problems. Although ATI pay us, we work for the developers almost as much as we do for ATI, always focusing on creating win-win situations."

ATI's Radeon X800 texture filtering game "So ATI admits that it's using adaptive trilinear optimizations most of the time. No mention is made of cases other than colored mip maps—other "atypical" scenarios—where no such optimizations are used." ATI's Trilinear Filtering Chatlog "Q: Why did ATI say to the general public that they were using trilinear by default, when in fact it was something else? (quality is ok, i agree, but you did deceive, by claiming it to be a trilinear) A: We understand that there was confusion due to the recent reports otherwise. We provide trilinear filtering in all cases where trilinear filtering was asked for. As has been demonstrate…

ATI Mobility Radeon 9800 Review "To date, only Dell has adopted Mobility Radeon 9800 for their Inspiron XPS (North America) or Inspiron 9100 (Europe) mobile platforms, and with the newer announcements of Mobility Radeon X800 it may be the case that these are the only implementations that will ever take up this particular configuration. However, until the X800, or NVIDIA’s NV41M based 6800 Go’s make it to retail this is the highest performance option available in a “portable” platform today. Here we’ll take a look at the performance of the Mobility Radeon 9800 and see if it can really offer a compelling high end performance."

Will NVIDIA SLi get caught in the ATi CrossFire ? "So now you’re thinking how cool is this, and you want one…. well, erm… the thing is right now there aren’t actually any of these cards available, so although ATi have done us all a favour by building in a level of future proofing by maintaining the use of ‘older’ cards for us, we can’t actually go ATi MVP right now."

ATI plans price cuts "X-bit labs reports that ATI plans to make price cuts on its Radeon X1000 line of graphics cards later this month. The move will reportedly follow NVIDIA's release of its GeForce 7900 GT and GTX graphics cards, which are expected to sell for $299 and $499, respectively. The new ATI prices as quoted by X-bit labs are $549 for the X1900 XTX, $479 for the X1900 XT, $299 for the X1800 XT 256MB, $149 for the X1600 XT, and $109 for the X1600 Pro. If the $299 price for the X1800 XT is genuine, the card will likely be a tough competitor to the rumored $299 GeForce 7900 GT, which is expected to have similar specifications to the current 7800 GTX. ATI prepares X1700 series "The number of Pixel Shader ALUs (arithmetical logical units) will also get a boost, and the RV560 will feature 24 of them, with four Vertex Shader units. The number of Texture Memory Units (TMU's) has also been raised from four to eight, since there is no logical reason to have fewer textures than pixels per clock."

ATI R520 "We have confirmed the 24 pipelines rumors from several independant sources. However, these 24 pipelines are not comparable to 24 of today's pipelines - multiply by 1.3. So the 24 pipelines will have the performance of 32 "normal" pipelines. The result of this is that the R520 will be two times as fast as the currently fastest X850s." Yeah, its rumor-mill stuff.... but most here will be drooling over the next flagship products from both houses!

ATi keeps on spinning to try to get R600 right "The reasons why a re-spin might be need can be highly technically convoluted. They can also be ultra simple. Humans, remember, are involved in the production decisions. With A11, as we understand it, the issue was very, very simple. Someone forgot to connect the pins that let the GPU communicate with the outside world. D'oh! Bang goes your Christmas bonus, sunshine! We don't know the state of play with the A13 spin but do understand that ATi has got A12 running at a speed of 1GHz."
