The second Xbox 360 revealed: codename Zephyr

"Ever wonder why Microsoft hasn't released an HDMI cable for the Xbox 360, or whether the AV port was really capable of digital out? Well, here's your answer: we landed pictures of what appears to be the second Xbox 360 -- the Xbox 360 v2, if you will -- codenamed Zephyr. (The original Xbox 360, if you recall, was codenamed Xenon.) The long rumored about and awaited update to the console won't just feature a new, cooler 65nm processor, it's also finally added an HDMI port for full digital 1080p pleasure, as well as a 120GB drive, just what the doctor ordered."

Xbox Live security breach denied

"Microsoft has strenuously denied (they used bold and everything) that Xbox Live security has been compromised, claiming that reports of users having their accounts hijacked and used to buy quantities of Microsoft points are the result of phishing."

So it was IE 7's sercurity that was compromised.... B)

A number of new details relating to Microsoft's Xbox 360 Elite have been clarified on the AVS Forum by Amir Majidimehr, corporate vice president, Mobile and Embedded Devices Division at Microsoft. There are a number of issues that potential buyers need to be aware of before buying.

The Xbox 360 Elite is Microsoft's response to Sony's PS3, but it seems that Microsoft may have cut a few corners. Specifically:

Xbox 360 Elite supports HDMI 1.2 profile, not HDMI 1.3 like Sony's PS3.

PCM output is available but only for 2-channels (not 5.1). This means that if you want high-quality audio output from HD-DVD, you need to rethink.

When the 360 Elite is connected to an HDTV set using an HDMI input, the console will automatically select the appropriate video output resolution up to 1080p. Users cannot manually force resolutions.

There also seem to be a number of issues relating to audio and video being out of sync when playing HD-DVDs. Patches are in the pipeline for this, but won't be released until the spring update.

I wonder if peeps will start to wake-up in light of what MS is doing & start to see something here...

If they buy the new 360 v2 ( $479 ) & then decide that they have to have the HD Player ( $199 ), they've already surpassed the cost of the PS3 which offers more for the bang 4 the buck than the 360. Another point on this is if peeps have the original 360 ( $399 ) & wanted the HD player ( $199 ), they still spend $600, same cost as the PS3 & still got more functionality w/ the PS3 than the 360. Suddenly the PS3 isn't looking so "expensive" anymore after all of that. But, will peeps see this? Probably not.

When U get a chance, check out some forums talking about this very same issue, it is hilarious reading the matter-of-fact statements of what I just said made by PS2/PS3 owners, Wii owners, PC owners & just people w/ some common sense & then listening to the 360 die-hard fans trying to "defend" all of this, it's great reading. There's a good Thread on this on the IGN boards.

Yeah, but a gun with limited ammo.... *cough* games for ps3 needs to change in a hurry. Sadly Sony is the #3 spot, and doubt that will change anytime soon.

Just like Sony will loose the market to HD-DVD if they don't lower the price of their blu-ray players to at least match HD-DVD new $399 price.

Don't jump the "gun" yet, Sony isn't outta the *cough* races by a long shot. It truly amazes me how people are so quick to jump on the Anti-Sony band-wagon b/c of "lack of games" or "price" of the PS3. Microsoft 360 was in the same boat @ launch as well, they didn't have much to offer for their launch games, but that was gradually resolved over the year, but did everyone jump all over them? Nope.

In regards to the PS3, it was a known issue even b4 launch that alot of the stellar titles where not going to be available till middle/end of 2007. Same thing w/ Microsoft, better titles were on the way, please sit back & wait. BUT, since it's Sony & they are selling their system for $200 more, we gotta lay the smackdown on them b/c MS would NEVER charge so much for their toy. I got news for ya, they're now doing just that, they simply didn't do it all @ once like Sony did. As for the media format war between HD & Blu-Ray, I honestly see more people embracing Blu-Ray right now than HD. Does that justify the cost of the players for both companies being as much as they are? Not in the slightest. Both players are overpriced, but that doesn't stop people from going out & buying them, thus encouraging said companies to keep pushing out new toys & charging more for them.

Only time is going to tell who the winner will end up being. I've seen the 360, I've played the 360 & it's not a bad system @ all. I can honestly say that I may end up buying one. Is it better than the PS3? No. Does the 360 have better games, or even more games than the PS3? At present, Yes. That's changing very soon however, but again, this is widely known, people simply need to remember that.
