B.Ob.
ATI/AMD's R600 board is a monster "This is the heaviest board that will hit the market and you will want to install the board while holding it with both hands. The cooler actually enhances the structural integrity of the PCB, so you should be aware that R600 will bring some interesting things to the table." rumor has it the NDA expires Jan 7th.... B.Ob.
AMD's R600 die gets pixellated "As you can see, the chip location on the packaging is rather interesting, rotated at a 60 degree angle - but do not be surprised, since this is not the first case of GPU manufacturers rotating the chip on the packaging." NDA gets lifted Jan 20th!!

B.Ob.
ATI R600 to go GDDR-4 only "In the end, Nvidia went with GDDR-3 memory in its G80 line-up, but DAAMIT continued to develop both GDDR-4 (Pele) and GDDR-3 (UFO) variants. Being late on the market enabled ATI to optimise. However, bean counters at AMD recently gave a "go ahead" signal for full-GDDR-4 line-up. So, forget about the dual-SKUs, 1Gig and 2Gig versions, GDDR-4 is the only way DAAMIT will go ."
B.Ob.
The Full ATI R600 Test "If you just bought a GeForce 8800, especially the GTX version, you might want to return your card on January 22nd when ATI R600 cards become available throughout the US at 630 USD (MSRP Price) which roughly equals the current price for a GeForce 8800GTX." B.Ob.
An update to the above link: "Update - Site, Upcoming 2560×1600 Benchmark, Pictures Happy new year! We are sorry that the site slowed down a bit. However, here are the great news: tomorrow we will be testing 2560×1600, and we will be able to provide limited pictures of the card approx. on January 5th/6th already. For everyone to understand why we cannot just “black out” the ID Tags: The major tag is a fine punched hologram foil wrap which cannot be taken off because it is glued onto the front metal around the DVI ports. Taking off the fan is impossible without removing it. We will definitely keep you updated, and appreciate all comments we have received so far." B.Ob.
OK, back to the topic.... ATi R600 Samples Available On Feb 28th "February 28th is the day where R600 card samples will be available to manufacturers and press while AMD continues working hard to launch R600 @ CeBIT. There are two versions; a 12" for OEMs and a 9" for the end users. No info as yet on their differences. According to INQ, AMD won’t let ATI release the new chip without being able to ship it in volumes so that lead to some delay." Interesting pic at that link.... ParoxysM
ATi R600 will not launch this quarter!! To better align our strategy with current market opportunities, we've changed the launch plan for R600. We are going to deliver a competitive configuration to market with an extremely attractive combination of performance, features and pricing, targeting a broader market segment in Q2. With the revised strategy, AMD will be better able to capitalize on the broad appeal of 3D graphics and DirectX 10, being driven in part by the growing popularity of Windows Vista™."
