B.Ob.
Im saving up my money for these That explains your pink bag.... Wow, I'm sure bobsbrat will be interested in above article!! Just to recap my last post.... Killer Nic - Spotted: First Pics "The first reaction to our interview last week with Bigfoot was met with a lot of skeptisism - and mainly because we in the hardware community have seen so many "snake-oil" companies come and go. Well to help substantiate its claims, Bigfoot Networks slipped us out some photos of its pending "lag-killer" network card. Two of these are pre-production units and the other is what the final product should look like."
B.Ob.
Bigfoot Answers the Tough Questions 5) I can’t see how this network card could reduce your latency by more than 1ms or 2ms round trip. Latency isn't introduced because your PC is stupid, it’s introduced because you're waiting the time it takes for packets to travel to your ISP, to its ISP, to its ISP, down to its child, down to its child, and back to some other PC, and having to interact with the 20 routers, gateways, and switches along the way. Bigfoot: ISPs are a major cause of Lag. It is one of 3 causes -- Client, Server, and Network (ISP). Bigfoot Networks sponsors a site to keep users informed on the causes of Lag and Latency, and even publishes tweaks and suggestions. The three causes of Lag are a major topic, and we completely agree: ISP causes a lot of latency. Killer is designed to reduce the latency caused by the Client. Simply running the ‘ping’ program is not sufficient, because it does not use your Network stack which can introduce tons of added latency. This is especially true when games are written using things like polling loops, single threaded select calls, and non-blocking select loops. Killer is designed to replace a Windows network stack and use hardware interrupts where polling loops, and other wasteful networking calls are made. In short, we are reducing Client latency by trimming queuing, interrupting, and bypassing network stacks. This can yield multi-millisecond benefits, even on the fastest of today’s computers. B.Ob.
Bigfoot’s Killer NIC "First off, let’s get down to brass tacks. Unless you have $279.00 burning a hole in your pocket that you might be willing to spend on a NIC, then just stop reading right here. That also means do not send me emails bitching about how much this Killer NIC costs. Most of you will likely not find value in this product, but some of you certainly will. We will look more at the Killer NIC’s overall value a bit later on." ... ... ... "That is why we would like to reach out to the gaming community in Austin, TX and have some of the best gamers there join us locally to give gaming on the Killer NIC a go. Then of course, give a regular NIC a go as well and tell us if you see a difference. Please mail me at Kyle @ HardOCP.com if you would like to see if you are skilled enough to give the Killer NIC a try."
ParoxysM
Basically this application allows the server to tell the other players that your ping is not as low as it really is. Whether or not you think this is fair game or dirty pool, well, that is up to you.
B.Ob.
Killer NIC Hands On Testing Part 1 "The Killer NIC takes the same concept and pushes it into the broadband age. The card runs upon its own 400Hhz Network Processing Unit (NPU), backed up by 64MB of onboard RAM. By providing the power necessary to manage all network processing on the card itself, the Killer NIC makes use of Bigfoot Networks' LLR technology to completely bypass the Windows networking stack. This means, in theory, that the CPU comes under no load for network processing, and all calls from software or games for network information go directly to the Killer NIC, eliminating numerous cycles from the CPU's processing loop. Cutting Windows' UDP protocols out of the loop also has the potential to lower latency between user and game server. The Killer NIC also prioritizes both inbound and outbound network traffic and can prioritize gaming packets above all others."
B.Ob.
Killer Nic - Initial Review "The notable feature to us is the sheer frame rate improvement Killer brings to the table – By bypassing the windows network stack the NPU greatly accelerates network processing and relieves your CPU of the chores, things within the game-engine can move along at a much higher rate and your CPU can fully “concentrate” on the parts of the game it needs to. As you’ll see in our benchmarks, the frame rate advantage is clear and quite frankly should be the defacto reason for someone to consider buying one of these cards." ParoxysM
I wouldn't spend any more than $20 on a NIC...good luck selling these to < 1000 people.

PurSuiT
Killer NIC seems about as useful for the price as a PhysX Processing Unit. much better of with a Intel 1x PCIExpress card. buy now and get 2 frames faster later. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814143055

B.Ob.
BigFoot Networks Killer NIC: Killer Marketing or Killer Product? "At this time you might be thinking we drank some Snake Oil but let us explain our comments. Our test results cannot be accurately replicated by our readers, other review sites, or even ourselves in a very controlled environment. Our test results are accurate based upon the criteria we utilized at the time of testing but they cannot be consistently replicated. In some ways our testing was a grand experiment that provided more information about our network capability and broadband provider than the Killer NIC. Wow, maybe there was something in that glass besides water now that we think about it....
