  1. I'm in, of course. Funny, I mentioned this a couple months ago....I dont think I did it thru you Nem. I did just enter a contest for their X800 system Anyone else who wants to enter, Click Here Limited Edition CM210 Black Aluminum Full Tower Case with Side Window and Case Lights AMD Athlon 64 3400+ CPU Abit KV8-MAX3 Motherboard ATI RADEON™ X800 XT Graphics 512MB RAM (Mushkin) 16x/48x Lite-On DVD-ROM Western Digital 40GB Hard Drive 1.44 MB Floppy Drive Windows XP Home Edition I hope you dont mind Nem, I put your ntac email, so you'll recieve an entry as well :explo: Looks like a cool system. 4 X800 cards are the second prizes.... Funny how I started this ATI trend when you saw how my Radeon VE outperformed your G-force 4. Now everybody's starting to follow suit. Good deal, but I'm still using the 9000pro. Here's the US and CA offices for ATI. Ontario appears to be the closest Canada (ATI Headquarters) ATI Technologies Inc. 1 Commerce Valley Drive East Markham, Ontario Canada L3T 7X6 Tel: 905 882 2600 United States ATI RESEARCH, INC. 62 Forest Street Marlborough, Massachusetts U.S.A. 01752 ATI Technologies Systems Corp. Patches

Looks like Nem got the links for nopatches..... :rotfl: I dont think that helps :bonk: We may want to drop then onto the server. This would make it easier for all of us. Maybe we could spend more time playing than setting up for a change :bump:
  3. How about a new version of Nimda? We could get every computer in the US to hit the site at once.... :bump: :rotfl: Of course we'd have to put Jay in charge of getting to the 300+ PC's at adelphia :explo:
  4. Maybe they recalled it already. :rotfl: We shoud really send a proposal to ATI and get them to send us their new cards for free. If we could get them to agree, we'd have them before theyre in the stores  It should work, we're all computer professionals. right? :wwe:
  5. I though that was one of your suggestions when you were haveing trouble with that crappy MSI board.....you know, the one where you created problems I'd nave heard of before? :bonk: Looks like you got your new system running without a hitch. I must have taught you pretty good. :snore:
  6. Yea, all the new games are cool, but I think the lan parties were more fun when we all played 1 game. Now we spend half the time trying to get things working right. Switching from one game to another usually requires some patch for compatability. When we just played UT, that wasnt an issue. Games with vehicles could use a better control interface. Keyboard and mouse work better than any pad or joystick I've tried, but its too easy to hit a wrong key. Its no fun to accidentally hit the SLEEP key But anyone who thinks the new games arent revolutionary games needs to go back and play Quake for a while. It was great when it was new, but seems ancient compared to UT
  7. Only when your armor is maxed. THen it takes 4-5 well aimed rockets to frag you. Flak only seems to cut you down to single digit health before you dissappear around the corner....but at least it sends you runnin. Against bots, I do much better with the flak cannon, but they dont head for shields right away. I'll have to get better with the enhanced shock rifle. There are still shock rifle arena's online......I do get a few kills in, but it requires a lot more acuracy...and dodging since they usually dont use jump match. Stll, a one shot kill even against full shields is nice....but the rifle needs a sniper scope
  8. Thats an inferior attitude. If you cant beat em, practice....eventually youll stomp em. Just ask Nem how many times he ran into my flak shells Why do you think he had to learn how to hide? After learning how to give him a challenge in UT, I couldnt get him to play a real strategy game.
  9. I remember Nems mom describibg his UT play habits as 'everyday that ends in a Y', and some people online play even more than him. I imagine some of the cheaters are just trying to level the playing field a little, though god mode is extreme. Most of us dont have time to play that often. I would consider the cheaters to be amateurs trying to live long enough to figure things out a bit, but if they continue using the advantage, best thing to do is find another server. THey'll get the hint when nobody will play against them.
  10. THat makes it easier. THese 3 on the gigabyte board have expanded, so the neat little creases in the top are visually bubbled. If you dont look close, you wouldnt notice. This was the result of letting the tech at the show assemble it. 1 brass mobo support in the wrong place. I have had to reinstall Windows to get show computers working properly, never thought I needed to check the assembly. Hopefully that misplace ground connection didnt burn out anything but the caps.
  11. You cant identify capacitor issues visually, unless they explode. Leaky capacitors dont leak anything physical, but current can leak through where it shouldnt, disrupting the circuit. Replacing the caps on your board may solve the vid issues, but you need to remove them from the board to test them properly.
  12. Naaa, you dont want to do that, your metal box will break. Then you'll be defensless against my flak cannon.
  13. Want me to call?? I think I could make up enough details to convince the TSR I'm at the house in question.....especially if Nem answers. Of course he may get confused if he saw Bob while he was on the line. Hold on, I'll ask Mac for his address.....hehe
  14. Sounds like we have a common enemy. You said you had to order them? THe guy I found will take paypal, and sells 14-17 cap kits for $20. I only need 3, none of the old dead boards are worth fixing....socket7. I'm wondering if a leaky cap is causing Nems vid issues since his mobo is mentioned in the article feedback. Maybe I should make a seperate post and we can get caps for everyone here that needs them. PS - You guys think I'm nuts for dragging that UPS around, right? This is why. Conditioned power does extend the components life.
  15. Sounds like a cool app, but I dont see my Via chipset in the list. I hope that isnt the completed list... Parox use it??...I dunno, maybe he's looking for opinions....waiting for us to tell him if its safe. Sounds like one of those screwy apps Nem keeps finding. I'd put together a box to test it first. Anyone got any newish dead motherboards? I need 3 electrolytic capacitors to fix this Gigabyte board. 6.3v, 105C, 1-1000uf and 2-2200uf. I found a place to order quality replacement caps, but I'll wind up with a dozen extra's, or pay top dollar for the 3. Do any of you need them? Maybe we can place a bulk order. I read about problems with capacitors that are being used on a lot of motherboards. Gateway, IBM and dell had an ordeal with them, Abit openly admitted they were having issues with them. They can be fissed, by replacing all the large capacitors, somewhere between 14 and 32 caps, all the ones over 1000uf. More info HERE
  16. Funny you mention that. I was looking at some old socket 7 boards trying to scrounge the 3 capacitors to fix this gigabyte board. None of the old boards, even the P2 Tyan board had the right caps. Ratings seem to be going up as the boards get newer. Nem, Now that you started it, I have to tell everyone "MY COMPUTER IS FASTER THAN YOURS" but you know this, I noticed you dont list your specs.
  17. I dunno....I think your typical cable tech might pass out when he see's the setup. Bob would have to cover all the PC's, routers and switches.....or we could go the other way. Setup the TC for lan party day.... Then we can all tell him whats wrong....hehe. Sounds like a connection, but if its a signal issue, all the signal data should be available in the modem....but I figured bob would have checked that already.
  18. Nem, if you really think its the modem, the solution is simple. They're only around $50-60 now. But if Bob is having the same issue, I'd say its adelphia. The winter may have affected some of their hardware, not to mention they seem to have DNS issues frequently.....but then again, so does alltel. THis wouldnt explain the modem losing sync, thats gotta be the hardware. I hope you checked your connections. I'd hate to have to come over there and find its just a lose wire.
  19. Nem, remember who your talking to. We cant leave anything alone, else we'd still be sportin our P5's. If there's a new toy, we gotta try it. Who cares if occasionally you wind up wiping the drive, thats half the fun. Then we can sit back and smile when we see someone else making the same mistake. If its broke, we'll fix it. If it aint broke, we'll fix it anyway. Remember, the full BF1942 install is a simple 12 step process, but we always seem to get it working in the end.....barring hardware issues. How else could we invent these problems nobody has heard of??
  20. Really....I hate demo's, I dont like to install them. Its always a risk, and they arent as good as they used to be. The first Wolf 3D game had 4 levels, the Demo was the first level, complete. Now demos gove you a small portion of a level, and sometimes they arent compiled right, and are larger than the finished product. But its getting better. Remember the demo that was on 14 floppies? When installs can lock the system in a loop, so if one disk is corrupt, you could lose the OS, or at least have to mess with the config files to track down the originals. i had a few PC's brought to me in that predicament. I'd hate to see someone go thru that over a demo.
  21. Kewl....lets let Nem put it in and make all the mistakes for us....hehe at least he doesnt need my help installing OS's anymore, I wonder what problems he will invent with this patch
  22. Dragon, you forgot to say 'not necessarily in that order'. I guess we'll each have to bring a play PC and a server to the next one......we all better bring our routers and switches too.....
  23. yea, we should mostly be over 2 ghz, but this vote needs another selection - AMD or Intel but like the vid vote where ATI is the top choice, we know AMD would probably win. I'm on my 6th AMD cpu, 3rd Athlon class
  24. NO, I think its that magical effect you seem to have on computers. You keep inventing problems I never heard of before. My old Wisecom 28.8 modem ran as fast as a 56K, and lasted till I got a mobo that couldnt work with it. ...I still have it in a box here somewhere, interested?....anyone?...hehe I voted ATI....can I vote twice? I have 2 radeon cards. Nem, if you need to borrow the Radeon VE, LMK Its only 32meg DDR, but I think its better than a blank screen, and the board its in is awaiting a PS(It seems that PS of mine you blew up started an epidemic). You may need to cut the framerate on some things.
  25. You call that a patch? 267mb - thats about 1/4 gig...thats almost a new game. Now where to find the patch-patch...
