B.Ob.
The Swedish website BFCentral.se have conducted an interview with DICE Lead Designer, Lars Gustavsson. Here is the English translation: "EA lengthened the developing time, it was planned to be released in the autumn in the first place. How much has this affected the game? It has affected the game quite a lot. I feel that we have, when you're writing the design and then have the chance to play it, a game like this needs all the time it can get to be played back and forth. In BF:Vietnam we had a problem with e.g. the kits such as the M60. It was tight with time and it succeeded to sneak in somehow. Because we are going to have a ranking system in the game it is important that we get plenty of time so that no one takes the whole cookie on the first day." B.Ob.
BF2: interview with Lars Gustavsson "Modifications FZ: Valve quickly got criticized when they released Half-Life 2 last year because they assumed that those who want to make modifications have access to the commercial compiler Microsoft Visual C++ .NET 2003, which costs hundreds of dollars. What tools are required to modify Battlefield 2 beyond that which DICE themselves supply? (Steven Svensson) LG: We have extended the support for modders by giving them the possibility to make their own modifications through Phyton-scripting. This means that there won't be any requirements for access to, for instance, Microsoft Visual C++ that you mentioned above."
B.Ob.
Ben Smith, Assistant Producer on Battlefield 2 XG: Has the company put in special effort in emphasizing the skill aspect of the game? Ben Smith: We are using the Stats and Tracking system to help players understand where they fit amongst the most skilled players in the game, in lots of different categories. The cream will rise to the top, and everyone will be able to see how they match up against the best players in the world.
Dragon
And the stats, tracking, and ranking system will only be available on EA servers, joy. Unmoderated servers, just where I want to be playing. Dragon
