I play the heck out of CoD4 - online & lans. ATM its the best game going period. I havent seen it announced here if anyone runs a dedicated.

Im interested. Where is the LAN going to be located ? Is there an expected or established list of games to be played ? Thanks.

"hugely extended but restricted maps"?!? Large size just means there lots of artwork assests of the game. But you don't come to LANs anymore so it doesn't matter.... End of story. Leave it at that. Yes, that means don't reply to this WarSpartan! When in Rome... So be it.

Do note I said nothing of the kind about warez. Your interpretations are out of line. I did say extended demo yes, but what in the world do you call a demo that lets you play single player, unlimited multiplayer (unlimited hours, but restricted maps), and are up to 2 gigs or more in size ?!? If thats not "extended" I dont know what is. Especially considering that when I used to play demos a lot they were only about 400-700 mb's in size at MOST. Heck a lot of the games I have installed right now are in the 1-2 gig range - thats the FULL legit copy of the game !!! To me demo's nowadays are hugely extended. DaPoets had it right on his first post after mine. I agree with your stance on warez / pirated games, so your policy is fine with me, though that wasnt the point of the question. I never even REMOTELY implied that I expected any kind of help / support in getting a game going and would not expect any. Horror stories about how Pursuit had a bad time trying to help other people get thier pirated games going were irrelevant. Annoying for him for sure, but thats not what im asking about. For the record I own legitimate copies of any game I enjoy and play regularly. In fact some games which I enjoy more I own 2-4 legit copies. Games like BF2 (2 Reg&SF packs, Far Cry (4), AoE2 (3), MW4 (2), and many more. I own more than one copy so when friends come over for LAN's we can go online and play if we only have 5 or so people show up (most already own the games we play but not all, so im happy to have an extra legit copy or so handy for my friends). Trying a demo is not an illegal activity and in fact the companies distribute them freely via download. Big arsed extended demo downloads, but they offer em. Do note though: My question was 100% valid. There were some strong mixed signals being sent. When at one point I see "demo's" played, but then another I see "get everyone to buy a copy before the LAN". I asked for clarification on that. Also - IF you felt I was talking about pirated vs. big demo's and I get yelled at to ask in PM's - wouldnt by the same reason you ask me to clarify in a PM before going ape-poop in the open thread ? And there you have it - next time you guys are concerned and feel the need to give the extended lecture just take a moment to ask if thats what I was talkin about We all use different terminology at times. Maybe its not the best or most precise but I drop slang words and statements all the time - as I know most people do. Im happy to clear up any misunderstandings etc.

TF2 is "okay". If you like really really cramped maps and quake'ish type action but with weapons that are mediocre at best, then its your game The only feature that i really liked about the game was that it has the HL2 button feature to switch between current and last weapon in a single click (q button). Best thing ever. So am I to understand that WNYG will no longer play games with folks who bring "extended demo" copies ? Not to sound too cheap but no all of us invest in full copies of the game before we try the "extended demo" a little to decide if we really like it. Since Ive seen the above quote type of comment a few times I wanted to know where the LAN's stand at this point. Since extended demos have been passed around freely at the lans in the past im currently confused or was unaware of the policy change. Thanks

Spent a few good lan sessions with it and so far everyone in our group agrees it sux. I was excited about it too. Its like a hodgepodge of much better games that does a poor job at all the games it tries to mimick. I'd take BF2 over this steamer any day.

I agree CoD4 to pwn fear any day.

We've been considering expanding ours and making it a more public affair but havent made the move yet. When we go that route I'll let you know and will post here with bob's blessing of course But if you're interested for the time being they've basically been small group gatherings of 4-8 people 1-2x a month. Send me a PM and I'll let you know what games we normally play, details, etc.

Was reading the reviews on them. Seems like the best choices of the 3 are the thermaltake or the thermalright. Though the thermalright seems to need to be lapped to counter factory warpage on as many as dont. The thermaltake seems to be consistently better made. The impression on perfomance is "if" you get a good thermalright that doesnt need lapping or has excessive warping, then they might be a little better than the thermaltakes. How much though I dont if its a big difference. So atm Im leaning towards the thermaltakes. They are $25 cheaper to boot. Im only dual core anyways so my need might not be as strong as the quad core runners. I'll read some more tomorrow.

Thanks for the input - question - how are all those fans you guys suggested on sound levels ? I once did a volcano on one of my xp systems a while back - it was so insanely loud i gave up on it and never used it again. Im hoping to do an air solution that has low noice levels if possible.

Hey all. Basically Im getting ready to put a solid overclock on my e6600. Winter time temps dont look to be a problem but when summer heats things up it might be a little much for stock. Does anyone have suggestions on good air cooling I could buy thats not too harsh on the budget and just as importantly not too loud ? I could also consider water but dont have experience with it yet and im seeing it to be somewhat expensive by comparison. Any suggestions or input is appreciated as always. Thanks, Wayne

Not as bad as I had it. Was packed up with the computer sitting next to the front door when I get a phone call from the apartments I landlord. One tenant basically freaked out, so I spent the entire afternoon to early evening calling and talking with police, changing every lock on all the doors to the apartments, giving notice of termination of lease, and the necessary paperwork to boot. And of course the whole time watching the minutes tick away on the lan. What a fun day...

24" Gateway here - go as big as you possibly can if you are shooting for widescreen. 19" wide actually feels as small or smaller than a 17" normal. 22" wides feel like 19" normals. This 24" inch is absolute bliss. You could go nutty and hit up 30" or more but you do run into the "too big" situation really fast that way. The tech is excellent right now - even this 24" has no ghosting, awesome dark contrasting, etc. Just need some strong vid muscle to push the higher native resolutions is the only drawback. Oh and im not dragging it to lan's, lol.

I actually have HL2, HL2 DM, and quite a few other titles from the HL2 engine set attached to my steam. The only one I didnt have was Ep1. I did play Ep1 on another account and enjoyed it, but because it wasnt attached on my current one, I couldnt get and play Ep2. If it wasnt for getting the shares for Ep1 id be SOL.

Black Box has everything except HL2 Ep1 as part of the package. So if you did not previously have Ep1 on your comp or part of your steam account already - you are currently SOL for playing Ep2 off the black box. If you can manage to get the shares as I noted then you can play. Otherwise no. I personally know at least 4 people locally who have the black box. So it is in fact an issue. If they are gonna promise you Ep2 as part of the package - at least open up the appropriate files to allow us to play. It was one reason I opted for the card I did vs. another brand or an nVidia card. Seems very backdoor'ish to me. Unless of course it was an "unforseen problem" and they fix it soon. But if they set you up to require you to buy Ep1 in order to play your Ep2 they promised - well thats kinda gay.

Whew finally got it running. For black box users who didnt have EP1 installed you wont be able to DL EP2 as it needs EP1 files to run. I needed to get a set of EP1 shared files (i can link the site if someone has an issue here) so I could put them in the shared directory of *.gcf files. Once there the download can complete and you can run the game. Finally setup this morning and will get to run through it tonight. Its a bummer and apparently a lot of folks are up in arms over the not being able to play EP2 even though its included with thier voucher. At least I found the work around.

Im having a problem with mine - i asked it to DL and it is staying stuck at the starting 44% and wont finish up DL'ing Im so dying to paly and cant !!!

How are prizes handled nowadays ? Tourneys, door prizes, raffles ? I'd love a crack at the vid card.

Hopefully that didnt mean the black box codes are no longer valid ??? I have a black box voucher here myself which i was gonna fire up in the next week or two Also would anyone happen to know if the black box gives you original HL2 & EP1 like the orange box does ?
