I was getting steady packet loss to this box from my own machine here, no matter if the unix box was in the router or in the giga-bit switch. I swapped the cat5 cable and packet loss gone!! So viewing pages, posting, etc. should go along at a decent clip again. Note to self: test that cat5 on another machine to confirm if its really bad.
