B.Ob.
Folding@Home on ATI GPU's: a major step forward "Now in 2006, we are looking forward to another major advance in capabilities. This advance utilizes the new, high performance Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) from ATI to achieve performance previously only possible on supercomputers. With this new technology (as well as new Cell processor in Sony’s PlayStation 3), we will likely be able to attain performance on the 100 gigaflop scale per computer. With this new software and hardware, we will be able to push Folding@Home a major step forward. We are beta testing the ATI GPU client software internally at the moment and will likely announce an open beta in four to five weeks (end of September)." B.Ob.
Update in link above: "We will make a formal announcement of the client at the ATI Stream Computing Event in San Francisco on Friday September 29, 2006 (this is open for press personnel, not for the general public), and then (assuming everything looks reasonable), start an open beta for the console client on Monday October 2 with the GUI GPU client (with real time visualization) to follow." B.Ob.
I forgot to post it at the time but was reading an interview with AMD/ATI and they were supposed to be helping them rewrite the whole program and they seemed quite confident that would at least double the performance!! B.Ob.
Client statistics by OS Windows Active CPUs 161740 = Current TFLOPS 154 GPU Active CPUs 543 = Current TFLOPS 32 So GPUs are curently doing 1/5th the work the CPUs are doing with approximately 1/300th number GPUs compared to CPUs.... That is friggin' impressive!!! Esp with a rewrite of the F@H client supposed to double the performance of the x1900's and hopefully also a G80 client in the pipeline. PurSuiT
Stopped running WCG as the new Bonic client BSOD's both of my PC. Thought it was Windows so I did a fresh install with just the base OS and newest drivers, then Bonic on and leave it run over night and it will be BSOD'd. Stopped running it on both and PC have been up and running for a week now.
