  1. I wud a bewy bad boy... I hope they let me come back for some more Far Cry And booya yes put Far Cry in for some play time in September !!! Must get mah FIX
  2. He he I think you feel that way about any game thats not quake 4 (or 3 or whichever ones are your preferred games).
  3. You know what -> I think Im just a little tired and cranky today. So if my posts on this came off too confrontational or mean just ignore me. I had originally intended to make a casual and well thought out discussion on this. So if Ive offended anyone sorry for that. Ill keep my grumbling to myself, lol. Thanks :flush:
  4. By that same token - are you interested in buying the ram ? Why post ? I personally would be interested in the RAM for the right price. Are you ? And if so why dont you add something pertinent to the discussion or offer up your expected price ? Feel 'da hate. Classic response when you cant argue the point. Im here discussing on a "forums". You know a place you go when you want to "discuss" things. You jump into the discussion and counter what I stated, but then turn around and play "holier than thou are" when you cant counter what I sated - thats just cheesy. If you are going to discuss then discuss, or concede the point. I would have been interested in purchasing the RAM, if the price for the used hardware would have been or will be lower. If its offered for $40 I have cash in hand and will buy it now. However my point is for $80, Im ordering it brand new from newegg or another good online store. I dont mind buying used but I expect to get a price that reflects the risks associated with it. Its pretty straight forward. Matter of fact I just picked up a set of used 512x2 sticks for $45 2 weeks ago. And remember this - Sacred asked specifically if his price was too high. I didnt stride in here telling him he must lower it first. By his request I presented my discussion.
  5. That is of course if every piece of hardware that comes off the line is perfect and if those pieces of hardware are used under ideal conditions for the duration of thier life. Few are perfect and identical pieces of hardware from the same production line will have dramatically different rates of failure. Memory is one of the more finicky and prone to problem computer parts. You dont know the quality of the other components that the hardware was used with. Poorly functioning power supplies and poor quality electric power in an area can lead to damaged hardware. Problems with other components in thier system can lead to shortened life expectancy, defects, etc. Dust, moisture, heat, overclocking, static electricity, how the parts were handled by the previous owner...the list goes on and on. I personally have numerous peices of hardware that have failed over time far far short of an expected life span. And even far short of warranty as well. There are so many reasons why hardware can fail far short of when its expected to. The problem with a used piece of hardware is you dont know (nor does the owner probably) what kinds of additional stresses that can cause defects or early failure the hardware has endured before you get it. If you purchase a brand new piece of hardware there are no additional stresses the hardware has endured aside being produced, tested, and shipped to you. Basically you have a far far greater chance of the longest potential life span with a piece of hardware when its bought brand new. If nothing else the idea of of "spurs" that form on the conductive material used in todays electronics can be another reason for unexpected failure. I cant remember the exact term for this process - but there is a researched and proven formation of "spurs" or "slivers" (or some term along those lines) that actually grow / form off of the conductive leads in these electronics. These are incrediblly tiny microscopic and near microspic formations. Eventually they can form and connect 2 of the leads or circuits in these electronics that are not supposed to contact creating small shorts. The size and number of the formations will determine if the short will damage the electronic. This is a proven occurence and as i understand it there is no way to prevent it at this time. Its a function of the materials we use in the electronics. Add to that the electronics are becoming smaller and smaller as we micronize everything, and these spurs or slivers when they do form have far more dramatic effects as the tolerances of the electronics are smaller. So all in all theres is about zero reason to expect just about any piece of computer hardware to last 1000's of years. Some wont last past the current usage life of your computer. There are just too many factors that most wouldnt even realize is a problem that can dramatically shorten the life span on computer hardware. People burn hardware out all the time by working it too aggressively. Sure it was the uber l337 for about 3 or 4 months, then suddently its horribly unstable. And to be honest when you see great deals on hardware its sometimes the n00b or hardcore overclocker who damaged his hardware. It still works, but has stability issues (ex: with graphics cards various artifacting and crashing). They can still sell it and it still technically works, but its unstable, works like crap, and crashes your games or computer all the time. Though overclocking has modest perormance benefits and done in moderation is usually safe, folks like to take it to the bleeding edge and burn thier hardware up fast because of it. Ive made the mistake of buying used from overclockers before. If they overclock thier hardware and you buy it used - its a crap shoot for sure. You usually dont get much documentation, and if you do, you usually dont get the original store reciepts or invoices for used hardware. Which means you have very little claim when you finally go to get it replaced or serviced. I dont have to work in a call center to have called in for support or service for hardware that i no longer had the documentation for and be denied on it. Period. Apparently they werent going to take care of your monitor till you made the claim you didnt know the person then made the "fuss" to get them to take care of it for you. My impression is that thier first reaction to your claim was they were not going to handle it. You got lucky. This I cant argue with. Some brain dead people on eBay think they are getting sweet deals and they are paying more for used than brand new ??? I swear I cant understand most of the computer hardware sales there. Once you take a look at newegg or some of the decent online sellers you wont even look at eBay anymore. Not to mention that the problem of getting something crappy is quadrupled and your chances of them taking care of it for you are pretty much zero unless they are truly kind hearted or cultivating a biz and need to maintain the feedback. But usually you're screwed if its bad.
  6. Its an okay price however its used hardware. Whenever the price between used and new hardware is even remotely close i will ALWAYS buy brand new. I dont mind buying used parts but I consider them a risk. * Someone has already used them for a period of time using up some of the life expectancy. * You dont know if there was any over clocking involved and therefore how hot or aggressively they used the hardware - which can have a tremendous impact of life expectancy for the parts if not how stable they are. * Generally there isnt any kind of warranty involved with used parts, or there might be a problem claiming it. * The part could be straight up broken or have serious defects (whether known by the owner or not). And if its junk and the seller refuses to take it back you are pretty much out of luck. In the end since used parts carry such significant risk and usually reduced life spans I expect to get them considerably cheaper than a comparable parts pricing. The lower price accomadates the increased risks and problems with buying used. Newegg a set of these 512x2 is $99. Comparable memory elsewhere can be gotten at $80 easily. I probably wouldnt front more than $40-$50 for a pair of used sticks in this situation If im going to take the risk it has to be worth it This isnt meant as a rub at all, just in response to your question if $80 is too much.
  7. 40's are good for that. What kind of timeline are you all thinking to get this monster up and running ?
  8. Ha yea, I do the same thing for every game too. Take my standard keyset that im used to and apply it to everything. I find it makes jumping games so so much easier. Otherwise picking up the standard FEAR keyset would be highly annoying I almost need it considering I dont play anything between LANs but an MMO nowadays, lol. Meh uba l337 skillz are horribly atrophied and suffering from MMO addiction. I'll send them for an intervention one day, cause really - i can quit any time...right...um yea :dork:
  9. Okay so instead of dirt cheap its just plain cheap. Though im sure most of us piss away $5 way more often than we'd admit  On thinking on it though, since its not local, any idea what kind of pings we would be talking about ? We'd want this thing to hang sub 100ms all the time (much lower if possible of course) or theres not much point in having a home field. Solid pings ftw.
  10. Actually you got your story reversed. Turn the up settings where is shows you the player name who fragged you too, you apparently missed the near constant stream of kills I unceremoniously heaped upon your anemic pixilated self. The only game that you managed to hold your own in was Q4, but I dished out what i recieved there quite nicely as well. :spank: :stfu: :bonk:
  11. All I can say is damn parox, who put all the starch in your shorts and made you the crank queen ? I know I cant make it but if everyone else wants to go have fun and take a shot at a tourney let them enjoy the adventure. Dont shit in thier soup on it. :stfu:
  12. Actually the same could be said for any game we play. Some hardcore most casual. I dont think theres any one game everyones truly hardcore about. Im totally up for this. I know another guy who'd play ranked with us a lot as well. So only $5 per person per year ? Thats dirt cheap.
  13. Bah you know you need me :cheer: Your resident BF2 r0xx0r ur s0xx0rs. But sorry I cant do the road trip. Overall its a fun idea and good luck guys.
  14. All good. The threads just really to note the fun we had at the LAN itself. Usually anytime you hit a LAN theres a memorable frag or moment. I figure this will be a fun little after LAN bit. Back when I played RTS games a lot, a fun part of the game was everybody taking a few minutes to BS what happened afterwards. Let everyone chat up what they were trying to do at different parts, then how they won or got owned, etc. Was cool. Made the game seem more deep. Thats just me though :dork:
  15. I propose this thread to brag about our great tales of domination / fun / embarrassment / etc Just tell a little blurb about something that happened in the games at the LAN that really stood out for you :dork: For me it was that last round of BF2. At one point in the round OCNoy decided he was going to steal our sides tank by sneaking up the back side of the hills. Then you just slide down the slope quick and you're in the tank. Well i was running to get the tank from the lower spawn point - as i crest the hill theres OCNoy coming over the slope - he's like 15 feet from the tank, Im about 100 yards or so, lol, clear at the other end of the plaza, no way to beat him, and no way to put bullet rounds on him enough to kill him before he takes the tank...sooo I pop off one of those rifle mounted grenades (all i had handly in time) in a hail mary holy crap long shot - and BOOM HEADSHOT right on his head. Got to watch him fly up and bounce of the tank, LOL. It was AWESOME ! LOL I still like thinking aobut it Got to raz him and listen to him go NO F***** way, lol. Nemesis was standing behind me watching me take the shot, lol, he can attest to its total awesomeness :cheer: Thats my little story of uberdom. Any standouts for you guys ?
  16. We have scores to settle from the lan before :wwe: LOL
  17. Like Bob said - dont play with the bots If im not mistaken thats the first time we had them going for a formal lan there. Just trying out the features of the new patch. We always used to multiplay with all humans which rocked too. Besides even with the bots in the game I always find its much more satisfying and fun when you hunt the other humans playing  You take out the bots to keep them from taking you out first - or when you have to seriously defend a flag to try to win or stay in the match. That last round we played saw a bunch of bots clustering on one flag. I ignored them and was hunting and fighting the other humans A group of us were constantly fighting for control of the building flag while the bots smacked each other around, lol. We put them in to "hopefully make the game more interesting and active". If that wasnt achieved for you we can run some rounds without them next time. If we play BF 1942 next time will it be straight up bf1942 or with the DC mod ? I havent played either game in forever.
  18. I dont think of Q4 as a bad game at all. Its great fun too. I wasnt trying to say Q4 or FEAR were bad games - just dropping my input on why i liked BF2 better. I find that i like to have options and different ways to play the game. Use some strategies or do some cunning tricks and moves and stuff like that. Its probably a throwback to being an RTS junkie. Doing things to put you one step ahead of the other guy, or at least countering them in areas where they are holding an advantage. I like taking advantage of the maps, vehicles, tools, and tactics, as much as pulling the trigger Another thought on it is being able to fight folks on different terms. For example in if someone is totally owning for whatever reasons in the run and gun game, and you just cant quite overcome whatever they are doing, then you can switch gears and fight them on different terms. Go sniper and pick them off at distance. Use parts of the map for stealth attacks and ambushes. When you observe thier patterns you can set yourself up to cut off some things they might normally do. Lots of players do predictable things, theres nothing more fun than turning that against them You can C4 thier camping spots, arty them even. You can counter what vehicles they use with the proper counter measures. You can bait them to certain areas then frag em. And of course you can hop in the vehicles for speed, firepower, and armor. Theres usually a counter to everything. Or if you simply get tired of running and gunning and want to do something different for a bit - lots of options. But you're still in the game and contributing and exacting your pound of flesh or supporting the team and its objectives. Lots of ways to find fun in the game. I like that. ------------ RTS wise i havent really played them since C&C Zero Hour. I could give BFME a try. I dont have a copy though. However its ez enough to play online if we want with "demo" copies. Be warned though Im a pretty dandy RTS gamer Or at least i was, lol, i might be too muddled by the FPS to be competent anymore, lol. ------------ Mmmmmm Far Cry...drools, lol.
  19. Im a BF2 fan myself. I love the variety the game offers. There are so many options and ways to play the game it reall makes me a happy panda I enjoy switch to different tactics during the game, so many tools to work with. FEAR i liked too, but i think bf2 trumps it. Q4 is okay. I find the gameplay extremely linear. Really for me the Q4 and similar games are just running power up circuits and twich fragging anything that comes along the circuit. Other strategies just arent really viable. They are fun for a bit, but I dig the variety of BF2. One throwback game that I would like to see sometime is Far Cry !!! :cheer: I loved working the map and terrain in that game *Cue evil maniacal laughter* Fun stuff Also on an RTS track anyone have any interest in C&C Zero Hour or Age of Empires 2 ? I started gaming on RTS but got away from it with recent lans. :popc:
  20. Wow glad i checked the boards - been so busy almost fogot the LAN was this weekend !!! Woulda been all not so cool and stuff :bonk:
  21. Is this going to be in stores ? Or only through steam ?
