Only $32.90 now. I just picked one up myself

Pencil me in too, Jeff. Are we going to play UT classic with the giant bedroom map in low gravity? You know, for nostalgic purposes.
-
So this will be about the 3rd computer you might be building at a LAN? :harhar:
This is only 3? I thought I was over that.
-
I only have a spare 939 cpu hanging around, sorry. Maybe PurSuit or Nemesis.....
Glad your stopping by at least thou!
I only got a spare 3800+ 939 right now...
I wasn't super optimistic on anyone having a spare. I did manage to make UT3 demo less Atari like though. I forgot that I hadn't unlocked my 6800 so I was running at 8/4 but I unlocked it and have it back to 16/6. That makes it semi bearable again. If I have to make due with this old POS, so be it. I'll still have a good time. I might have to make a run to the UPS office if the tracking info shows my processor is in town though :harhar: I'll bring the new components just in case.

I'm planning on coming barring unforeseen circumstances. The thing that really sucks is that I have all of my upgrades (DFI lanparty SLI AM2 MB, BFG 8800 GT 512, 2 gigs OCZ Plat 2) all ready to go, but my AMD 4600 X2 won't be here until next week. If anyone has any spare AM2 processors laying around collecting dust I'd love to test this rig out Saturday. If not, I'll have to wait till the December LAN. Can anyone help a brother in need?

It would take a while to make, at least for me. The connectors themselves would probably cost ya thou.... The new one doesn't seem to bad a price for what would definitely be a low volume part.
I agree I am seriously thinking about buying it.
Well, if it were me, I'd take a dual rear panel USB connector (the ones that come with the MB that I never use) that already has the 2x5 header connector and the wire and just pick up the PHR-10 and some pins and solder it on.

Was reading the reviews on them. Seems like the best choices of the 3 are the thermaltake or the thermalright. Though the thermalright seems to need to be lapped to counter factory warpage on as many as dont. The thermaltake seems to be consistently better made. The impression on perfomance is "if" you get a good thermalright that doesnt need lapping or has excessive warping, then they might be a little better than the thermaltakes. How much though I dont if its a big difference. So atm Im leaning towards the thermaltakes. They are $25 cheaper to boot. Im only dual core anyways so my need might not be as strong as the quad core runners. I'll read some more tomorrow.
I'm not sure about the performance, but it's quiet and the price is right. $1 AR. I Just picked one up in anticipation of future upgrades

Yeah, the lame ass wide screen support sucks. Glad I'm not running one yet. I'm sure with all the bitching on the forums, 2K will patch it in, but it should have been there from the start.
It runs great on my pc. Every now and then I get a hicup but its never when it matters. I get smooth fps all the time. I really haven't seen a difference between Dx9 and 10 with screenshots, maybe my eyes are going. Hopefully we'll have someone at the next lan with Dx10 and the game and we can compare side by side.

Here's a fix
Fixing Widescreen "bug" & regular 4:3 FOV (Field of View):
Download Racer_S's FOV tool - http://dl.tocaedit.com/bioshockdFOV.zip
1)Here's the numbers for BOTH sliders for Widescreen fix:
16:9 = 0.75 sliders
16:10 = 0.833 sliders
2)Devs of Bioshock used narrow FOV(75 degrees), in normal games like Half-life, Quake 3, UT2004 FOV is 90 degrees, so if u wanna correct that:
16:9 = 0.706 sliders
16:10 = 0.75 sliders
5:4 = 0.869 sliders
4:3 = 0.833 sliders

Anyone else playing Bioshock? I'm digging it so far but would love to see it on a decent system. I have to run with everything cranked down since I haven't done any upgrades in over a year. It's still fun though.

One long 2 short is RAM, same thing happens if you try to boot a system without any ram in it. If you're using x16 DS sticks, I've found some motherboards require the latest bios to support them. I'm going through this now with an ASUS P5B with OCZ Gold DDR2 800. I just sent the board to the manufacturer to flash to the latest BIOS and send it back to me.

Hmm. I went to all 4 Office Depots in the area and not one had a copy of it
-
Which office depot had it for that price?

Is anyone in the Beta of Archlord? It seems that you need a fileplanet membership to download it, but I found a torrent of it. I haven't actually played it yet because it's downloading some behemoth of a patch at the moment. I'll post back later tonight with my impressions. They have an interesting marketing strategy, offering a unique, in-game item for those who pre-order the full game.
Check it out Archlord Game

I guess this is relevant here. I wrote a batch file to shutdown unnecessary processes and free up system resources from idle processes. I use it when playing games and a few others have asked me for it, so I thought I'd post it up for anyone that wants it. Copy the code into a text file. Rename the file taskkill.cmd. Open a CMD prompt and CD to the location you saved the file. Run it as Taskkill -list and it will generate a list of your currently running processes at the bottom of the batch file. Open it and remove any system processes or anything you want to leave running. Afterwards, just run it by double clicking the file or directly from the cmd prompt as taskkill. At any time, you can run it with -list and it will list all running processes, but they have to be filtered manually each time you do so. Only tested on XP systems at the moment.
@echo off & setlocal :: Matt Williamson :: rev1 - 6/13/06 :: This batch file will kill all process listed below the Data section. :: If no Data section exists, run with -list option and it will be created :: based upon the currently running processes on your system. :: after creating the list, be sure to filter it of system processes so the :: list only contains those that you want killed. I've filtered out some :: system processes already. if "%1"=="-list" ( for /f "delims=[]" %%a in ('type %~f0 ^|find /n "[Data]" ') do set bdata=%%a if "%bdata%"=="" echo.>>%~f0&echo.>>%~f0&echo.[Data] >> %~f0 for /F %%a in ('tasklist /FI "IMAGENAME ne system*" /FO TABLE /NH') do (echo.%%a >> %~f0) goto :eof ) for /f "delims=[]" %%i in ('type %~f0 ^|find /n "[Data]" ') do set yds=%%i for /f "usebackq skip=%yds%" %%a in ("%~f0") do (taskkill /F /IM %%a /T) ::free up processing time from any idle processes Rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks goto :eof

Is the board totally dead? What all did you try when troubleshooting it? Is there a reset CMOS jumper? I've also encountered issues after flashing the bios when one revision has fan RPM monitoring and the fan I have connected doesn't meet the minimum requirements for speed. What type of chip is the bios? I have an EPROM burner if you want me to bring it to the next lan party.

What is that? GWBasic?

What about SW Battlefront II? Anyone have it yet? It looks pretty cool from the commercials I've seen.

Bah! I thought this was going to be a programming post
Life is entirely what you make it.

No, they don't get hot, but I haven't OC'd yet. Everything is running at spec ATM. Obviously, I want to change that
I called Ultra and they said the sticker warning is more to prevent people from removing it and sticking it on another stick and sending it in for RMA. The guy I spoke with said to peel them off and save them just in case, but if it came down to it, he thinks they would warranty the product as long as I called them first.

Chaintech 7NJL6 Socket A Motherboard -$30
AMD Athlon XP3000+ Socket A CPU Barton Core 333FSB -$60
2x Ultra 512MB PC3200 DDR 400MHz CL3 - $40
Ultra X-Connect 500w Modular PS - $35
ASUS Geforce 6600 TD 256 meg Video card -$92
Maxtor 160 gig drive - $50
Nothing blazing, but I got everything for around $300 after all the rebates. So it gets me up to speed and able to play again and it didn't break the bank.
P.S. Did I mention that I LOVE Onrebate. rebates directly to my paypal account in about a month. gotta love it. By the time I get the credit card bill, I usually have the cash back.

I have a couple of sticks of 512 Ultra PC3200 DDR and I figured for $3 I'd get the heatspreaders when I bought the ram. The conflict I'm seeing here is that the ram has a sticker over the chips that says warranty void if removed. I'm pretty sure to have the best thermal efficiency and adhesion of the contact pad of the heat spreader, that direct chip contact is needed. What has everyone else done? Go over the stickers, or rip the suckers off and not worry about the warranty? I have a call in to Ultra too to find out what their official stance is.

Since I've missed the last few due to vacation and other grown up responsibility type stuff, I'll be sure to make this one although I'll be a little late since I have to look at like 14 houses this Saturday beforehand. I haven't played any games since the last party I attended (which was too damn long ago), so I look forward to seeing the new stuff that's out.
