Would you guys mind if I started a WNY Gamers Club Team SETI?

I'm looking at the challenge and everyone is still at 0 results... wouldn't it be nice if they updated realtime? I guess they need those resources to do more folding :-)

I think I need a new sound card... My intel D975XBX2 mother board has onboard sound that long story short sucks donkey balls. I have been getting this problem where I am playing nearly any game for about 30 min to an hour and the screen freezes and I get caught in a sound loop. The only escape is the reset button... So I disable the onboard sound and stick in my old old old Creative PCI 128 soundcard and the sound quality and volume greatly improve instantly.... Even on vent my guild was saying "woa turn that thing down" but yeah loud and clear. This reduced the frequency to me getting this freezing sound loop issue to about once an hour now while playing a game. This even changed how it sounds when the loop happens.... NOW.... at 3.2ghz I can run prime95 till the cows come home and Orthos as well, memtest gets pretty boaring after 18 hours. This doesn't happen though when I don't overclock and leave my speed at stock 2.4ghz. Seems like if I go over 2.4ghz then eventually I get the freeze up w/ sound loop while gaming after an hour or so. I even started adjusting my PCI Latency timer from 32 to 64 to 96 and they all seem the same... 128 got me artifacts after 20 minutes of gaming. (x1950 Pro 512meg PCIe) Any ideas?

Long story short, not all games cared if you had 256meg or 512meg... Company of Heroes suprisingly enough was one of them... you would think it would like 512megs but it didn't really care... PREY on the other hand chewed up the 512meg and blew away the 256meg... FEAR didn't make any difference 256meg or 512meg... hhmmm well for future games yeah the 512meg will be more useful and those start to hit shelves in november... Crysis and Front Lines... bah.... I guess I'll hold out for the 512 meg even though I don't play any current games that would bennifit from the extra ram...

I called ATI at 877-284-1566 and they said that yep it works BUT it will operate at the lower memory size which in this case is 256meg.... So I guess the question is.... do I spend like $30-$40 more to get another 512meg card or call it a day w/ the 256 meg which is nice and cheap and enjoy the crossfire at 256meg... would it even be a noticible difference from 256meg to 512meg? *edit... by the way the guy on the phone said he personally felt that it would add the two ram together but he said other he works w/ said it would just be the 256... Either way it works fine.

For crossfire, does it matter if one card is 512meg and the other is 256meg but everything else is the same? I'm thinking of saving some cash and getting the 256 meg x1950 pro if it won't make a difference.....

I decided to run a 3dmark w/ out overclocking and the results were not that serious in differences from overclocked to 3.2ghz. 2.4ghz is 5801 http://service.futuremark.com/orb/resultan...mp;UID=11033221 and 3.2ghz is 6059 didn't copy the url.....

chug chug chuging away... Starting to get some numbers on the board now.

They fixed an error I was having w/ the profiles... I couldn't create a profile before w/ out some error coming up everytime I typed a letter trying to name a profile... now it works... kinda... I try to have 3 profiles, one for default, one for the videocard OC for 1 monitor and OC for 2 monitors... Switching between the profiles hasn't been the most reliable thing, but atleast it's an improvment.

yeah but I like the pretty graphic lol.. hmmm after a random reboot it's running all 4 cores at 100%... I guess it had been a little while since I rebooted...

XP and no service... I read that if it's as a service then you can't use it as a screen saver.

You know what, I have been reading more about how WCG utilizes resources and it takes a back seat to what ever you are working on, so when I'm truly idle then it's at 100% most times, but if I'm doing stuff like streaming music, watching a dvd, emailing, web surfing and the like, then it scales back a bit.

yeah I'm not sure why it's doing that on my Quad Core... I think I'll run orthos and prime95 for 24 hours each again at 3.2ghz just to make sure things are working well... I changed the air flow of my office so it's much cooler in there now as well which I think was the key for my system becoming stable. I even moved my computer from the floor to ontop of my desk and that dropped the temps a bit too. But I am thinking that perhaps quad cores just don't need to run at 100% all the time on WCG because I see it cranking away... sometimes at 100% sometimes less...

Since my system is finally stable at 3.2ghz (up from 2.4ghz) I am running WCG 100% now on my quad core when I'm not using it and I bump it down some when I'm gaming. I find that even when it's at 100% it doesn't use the full resources on all 4 cores all the time... sometimes 3 cores are at about 80% (up and down) and the 4th is just hanging out at about 35%. It's interesting to monitor. I have a second computer (800mhz P3 320megs ram) that I have working on WCG at about 70% resources because anything more and I can't move my mouse easily lol. I will be building a 3rd machine from my old parts Pre-upgrade and that will be a P4 2.6ghz 2gigs ram. Hey if anyone has any PC133 ram they want to give away to help the cause let me know, that P3 is kinda struggling.

Stable I'm up to 6109 on 3dmark06... still tweaking away but I guess starting from 5656 is a nice improvement.
