  1. How funny is that, we are just behind the Ubuntu Linux Club and that's my new machine lol http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/team/cha...challengeId=230
  2. From what the ATI guys were telling me on the phone, the video card ram doesn't stack and it will use the lowest size of the two cards. So 2 cards at 512 megs each should not equate to 1gig of ram. Thus Windows xp 32 should give me 3.5gigs ram. But my ram comes in the mail tomorrow so I guess we will see then for sure! :-)
  3. Oh man... I thought having a P4 2.6ghz to crunch more number was going to greatly add to my points and work units but man.... It's slow as balls compared to my Quad Core LMAO.... I really didn't realize how much faster an overclocked Quad Core is over a 2.6ghz P4.... Geeezz.... Based on what I can tell, the Quad Core at 3.2ghz is crunching numbers 6 to 8 times faster than the 2.6ghz P4... The P4 I think is being slowed down because it's acting as if it has 2 cores but it's only Hyperthread so it's really doing 2 work units at the same time spliting the resources of 1 core between the 2 units. I wonder if I can figure out a way to get it to use 100% of the P4 just on 1 work unit... The linux BOINC doesn't have all the options as the windows version so I'm not sure if I can do it...
  4. Should I get the orange box for the lan event? also check the sig for WCG :-)
  5. I read that since my video card is 512megs of ram, that windows xp 32 bit will only use up to 3.5gigs of my new ram.... sigh... At least I am dual booting and getting used to windows xp 64 bit...
  6. I now have a 2.6ghz P4 HT 800mhz fsb with 1.5gigs PC3200 running Ubuntu and WCG 24/7
  7. Ok over the weekend I finally got Ubuntu installed on my 2nd computer. I upgraded the motherboard/processor from the PIII 800mhz to a P4 2.6ghz. Ubuntu installed perfectly fine and I had gotten BOINC to install and added 3 of my projects but then while I tried to install my ati drivers the screen when blank (I used the wrong drivers......sigh...) and then when I got things working again, all my projects were gone and I couldn't connect to localhost in BOINC again.... I used "select computer" "localhost" and the pw in the .cfg file... but it won't connect.... now I have realized that the boinc website has been extrememly slow and not working for me half the time over the last day or so so I"m hoping that has something to do with it. I am really loving Ubuntu though!!!
  8. I'm excited, I'll be up to 4gigs of pc6400 DDR2 ram this wednesday.... I'm not sure if the added ram will increase my score at all but I know it will help in other areas....
  9. perhaps it's more stable as a service in my system because of how far I have overclocked it? 2.4ghz to 3.2ghz is a jump.

    LOL what the hell
  11. OK!!! WHOOO HOOO I ended up buy this today http://www.hisdigital.com/html/product_ov....92&view=yes and I got it for only $139 online from newegg as an open box. It's normally $199 and so I used the savings to buy another 2 gigs of ram to bring me up to 4gigs. I'm tired of playing BF2 and looking at my system having only 90megs - 300megs free depending on what I'm doing... So Crossfire in 3 business days!!!
  12. I updated my BOINC with the latest version and installed it as a service this time.... I did that a few days ago and I can tell that I'm cranking out more points per day.
  13. I have crossed the 100k threshold... I'm starting to catch up!! Just on 1 machine...
  14. /golf clap I'm no longer in last place :-) And my best day yet! Statistics Date | Total Run Time | Points Generated | Results Returned 09/23/2007 | 0:003:19:36:46 | 13,245 | 30 http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/team/vie...mId=6D5XNJBR9N1
  15. oh programing language humor... that cracks me up every time... hahahaha............. *I need a drink now...
  16. I figure 4 hours a week divided between 2 foreign languages should flex some brain cells.
  17. I decided to jump on an opportunity to take 10 week classes in both Chinese and Arabic. For $100 each you can't beat that price. I'll be a beginer in Chinese but I did 3 years of Arabic in undergrad so I'll do intermediate for that class I think.... but I'm rusty... http://www.iibuff.org/FLC.html http://www.iibuff.org/documents/2007_Fall_...ration_Form.pdf I was about to do this same type of clase up in Toronto every Saturday for 10 weeks... but that's 1.5 hours just to get there... this is 1 mile up the road from my job! woot!
  18. What in the name of ME are you doing w/ all that bandwidth?
  19. Man w/ all that horse power, slide 10% over to SETI and ClimatePrediction... I tried running BOINC overnight at 3.3ghz and when I woke up I saw Black screen of death lol... oh well. 3.2ghz runs just great even while I'm playing BF2 and streaming music w/ BOINC at 100%
  20. my god man... you have 95 installations of this??!!?? no wonder you are getting 50 results!

  22. lol nice! By the way (perhaps answer is in previous posts) but what sparked WCG for WNY Gamers? I like it alot and plan on it being my main project but what drives most of you to keep it 100%?
  23. Yeah I installed that bios a few days ago and didn't see any performance difference.... I think I will write intel a nice email w/ my system specs and issue... perhaps it's common enough for them to add a fix in the next bios.
  24. Thanks!! Ok we now have a SETI team and a Climate Prediction team. http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/team_displa...p?teamid=134046 http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboin...php?teamid=6979 I have my Resource Share set to the following: World Community Grid 300 (75%) SETI@Home 50 (12.5%) Climateprediction.net 50 (12.5%) I think the Climateprediction looks really cool on screensaver and you can change what you want to see, ie temps, pressure, clouds, etc... SETI is a gooden :-) Please join up!
