  1. Yeah, I've actually been meaning to discuss that with Henry, but it seems most of the time, either I'm at work, or he is. Of course, perhaps he'll read this as a Guest and sign up.... *wink* /nudge/ As for people not seeing the network, it seems to be a time issue <nothing abnormal thou from what I understand> with my W2k Server machine <as that is the master machine on the network> seeing them and broadcasting out to everyone the new machine on the block... As for some people not seeing some of the game servers.... Got me.... None of the switches are managed, so once the machines can surf out and see the other machines on the network, seeing a game server shouldn't be an issue...
  2. Apparently it is in ALL versions <see modifed post above> of the UT engine (even classic UT!!) As for comparing it to MS's rehashed stuff.... I never thought of Windows as a game... Perhaps that will make my computer funner to use...
  3. Wow, surprised you'd buy PocketPC.... mostly just because a flavor of windows on it... Kinda cool that is has bluetooth and 802.11b built-in thou!! Hmmm, if a bunch of people got these, you could have a wireless lan party!!!
  4. I found this on Blue's News: A recently posted BugTraq listing (thanks 3DGPU) outlines a vulnerability in Epic's Unreal engine that's susceptible to DoS, DDoS and bounce attacks with spoofed UDP packets. The report outlines the problem, which affects dozens of games from Unreal through UT2003, and describes how the author of the report held off on publicizing this for almost three months to give time for Epic to devise a fix. I contacted Epic's Mark Rein to ask about this and he was very frank about how this had indeed been brought to their attention, but had unfortunately fallen through the cracks. He sent along a list of changes for the next planned UT2003 patch which will now address these vulnerabilities, and says it's likely that a small patch will be issued to address these in the original version of Unreal Tournament as well. As for other games using the Unreal engine, he says that fixes like this are always made available to licensees, who will then be able to issue patches of their own should they so choose. Here is Mark's no-holds-barred assessment of why this went unaddressed after being brought to their attention: I won't sugar coat this. We f***ed up on this. Yes this is real and yes this was brought to our attention and yes we should have fixed it by now. We are working on fixing this now and we will have this fixed in an upcoming patch before too long. So, the server will be down, unless I'm home and playing on it, or I get a request for it.... Hopefully they'll get a new patch out quickly...
  5. Last time we tried, I remember we had fun with RtCW. We just needed a few more players.... It does move a bit slower than UT2k3, which is fine for me. Also possible to have Medal Of Honor (MOH) as well.... I know a couple guys at work are playing the Spearhead expansion for MOH quite a bit... Serious Sam 1/2 makes for a great break since you can go co-op and we can all mow down the monsters together!! Although we havn't done that in a while either... Lots of games to consider.... Perhaps a poll for the next LAN party would be order... For those that havn't seen our other LAN party regulars on here, nudge them to at least register so they can vote in the poll!!!! Kinda funny 5 different people have posted in here, yet only 3 have voted.... Woops!!
  6. You'll probably get an off-shoot of this type of system: http://www.tomshardware.com/mobile/20030205/index.html The 3D performance you'd probably want to take with a grain of salt, since they have different video chipsets (but the nVidia does smoke the ATI) but is quite impressive never-the-less!!! Also has built-in 802.11b....
  7. Some good questions there!!! I usually bring up a UT2k3 server before everyone gets there. Although I can usually run two dedicated game servers on the same machine, like UT2k3 and JK2 (Jedi Knight2) or AvP2 (Alien vs Predator) and another game... (Don't have Half Life on it at the moment) Some others like Serious Sam require the machine be dedicated to them alone. And others don't (think) require a dedicated machine, like rpgs, World Craft 3, Dungeon Siege (stop me if I'm wrong, as I don't play them.) Can they even run as a dedicated server? I know RalliSport Challenge is kinda funny multiplayer (havn't figired it out yet , but its there!), although Need For Speed:Hot Pursuit2 can, but doesn't require it. We havn't had a schedule of games, but it usually ends up half or more playing the same game at any one time.
  8. How does it compare to ST:Bridge Commander? As I've seen a few play BC at the last few LAN parties....
  9. Can't you use the X-Box as a DVD player as well, or do you HAVE to get the remote for it?

    Nvidia Vs Ati

We've owned both and the AIW series from ATI has it all-over nVidia's Personal Cinema (nPC) series. Of course it didn't help nPC that you could only get it mated to a GF2 MX400, where the AIW you can get all the way up to their current top of the line card!! Mary should post also, as she has used it a lot more than I have... (being in her machine and all.... )
  11. Wow, the DM boards in the Digital Extreme Bonus pack rocks!!! DM-DE-Grendelkeep, DM-DE-Ironic and DM-DE-Osiris will definately be in the Deathmatch rotation!!! Hey Nem, where can they pick (link) up with those Marvel Characters we've been using?
  12. For those looking to play on the server, its been mostly down the past few days. I will be updating it in the next day or so with the latest 2186 patch and DEBonus pack (hopefully a couple new cool boards in there) Any thoughts on style, dm, ctf, custom boards that you found that should be in the rotation? Oh, for the ip, just see what wnygamersclub.com (at a command prompt type: ping wnygamersclub.com) resolves to. Currently it is: 24.49.215.118

    Nvidia Vs Ati

Perhaps it just shows that even though ATIs drivers are MUCH better... When ever you play the newest games with the newest hardware, you have to expect problems sometimes! (Gasp, I didn't put down ATI, am I feeling well? ) Unless it was developed on that card, nVidia, *cough*. Ok, I feel better now.... (( ))
  14. Hmmm, I didn't see the GeForce4 Go 4200 as an option.... I think that is the most powerful mobil vid chipset to date... Also, if you plan on running Doom3 on it, wait for the next mobil chipset (if you can) generation.
  15. Does it really need to be a laptop? Those small Shuttle boxes look pretty cool, and you can put nearly any video card in them!! They come in both flavors now, AMD and Intel...
  16. I loved the Multiplayer of Halflife!!! (before TFC, CounterStrike, etc.) Can't say I've played it in a long time. Although I do recall being disappointed in TFC, which was why I never got into CounterStrike much. Although I can't deny CS is still the most widely played MP game/mod out there!!! Between the old school UT (yes Perfection, it IS old school now!), Quake, Quake2, Half-life, Serious Sam, etc. there isn't a shortage of games to play that will run on even older systems... Perhaps we can have theme LAN party..... nothing newer than summer 1999?!
  17. Can't say I've seen/played that yet..... Educate me!!
  18. It sounds cool, but unfortunately, I don't have a console.... I did see that a LAN party(s) in Binghamton had some console players along with PC'ers, so I guess we can get along! It certainly would make for a lighter load for those that wanted to come with a console, and certainly would open the door for more people as well!!! Besides, switches are cheap, bring 'em on!!!
  19. Well Opus, you must come to the next LAN party then!!! We'd be happy to shoot you!!
  20. This isn't necessarily vaild for me... I play UT with the keyboard only, and I play UT2k3 with a mouse... Although I seem to hold my own in 2k3, so of course I like that better... As for speed, UT should run faster, its a 3 year old engine running on hardware that wasn't even dreamed of at the time.... The mods will hopefully come to 2k3 also.... Heck the Bonus Pack (with new maps) was suppose to come out today!!!!

    Nvidia Vs Ati

Mr. Nemesis.... can we please keep to the subject... I'd still be hard-pressed to give up my nVidia card for an ATI card.... Perhaps I'm just a loyal nVidia fanboy.... Paul has had problem running SimCity4 with his 9700PRO.... It was kinda of disturbing to see texture issues with the FX card, but we'll see what it is like after its released...
  22. So, which is the better chipset? nVidia: - frequent stable driver updates (except lately) - console experience (X-Box) - come on, its the Empire!!! ATI: - frequent but historically poor drivers (except lately) - console experience (Game Cube) - the underdog
