Considering the strong co-op demeanor of L4D, how do you structure and award for a tournament in that ?

Okay cool. Just wanted to pick dates for my house LAN's that did not conflict with wnyg LANs. Im having 'just for fun' LAN's at my place again - so the dates question was in regard to a seperate LAN than the wnyg LANs. My question might have been confusing - sorry for that Ill post the dates on them as I pick 'em and you guys are welcome to come. I know you guys are looking at LPE right now but do you happen to have an idea of when the Feb house lan is ? I couldnt remember what the method was to the dates and didnt want to schedule a LAN at my place that would conflict. Thanks

'Twas the night before LAN'mas ... Okies 8 confirmed - looking good. Sorry for those that I missed on AIM tonight I was called into work and just got back. Its only gonna be a mini lan at this point based on those confirmed so far - probably 6'ish + depending on who finally arrives. And of course - Happy New Years

No worries Overall it looks like its a bad weekend for everyone, except a couple at this point. I should have known with all the holiday action, lol. I mean i guessed it, but was hoping a few might be chillin for the holidays with timez to burnz. It does give me time to get the last couple tables and then i'll be 100% for up to 16-18 people without folks having to drag but a few chairs out here. For added fun'ness I have a 60" big screen TV down here too for those that might want to plug into that in the future. At LANs past I'd let folks use it with the couch and call it the "luxury seat", ha ha. We could always set it up with an "observer" box for games that have that as well. Now I just need to nab TecBoy's bar and fridge...muwhahahaha.

I should be set for this LAN unless everybody decides to show up. Just ordered my switch so with luck will have it by Sat. The wiring is all done as of tonight so thats set. I have tables and chairs for 10 people on top of myself. So looking good. Tech wise if anyone wants to use an on-hand monitor that can be arranged - I have a couple that im getting ready to take to the office next week, so feel free to burn them in a little. 19" and 22" wides. I have 2 boxes I can make free as well for anyone who wants to forgoe dragging out thier machine. Thanks and let me know

No worries - I didnt expect much response if any for the 27th there, but tossed it out for the heck of it. The 1-3 coming up I'd love to LAN for those still interested. The weekend is a go as it stands with 4 confirmed so far. I'll keep my ears peeled till Wed / Thurs to get an idea of headcount etc. Sorry you wont be able to make it Henry - theres a nice desk on the one wall which would have fit your server and box comfortably Right now im still mulling over the switch I'd like to get - making my final decision this afternoon as the matter of fact. Power is in, network lines are strung, so just need the core networking toy. I have some 10/100's that will get the gaming done well enough, but definately want a giga for the transfers. For any that want to chat me up till then you can PM me here or AIM me at BBGameWTH, I have AIM up pretty much all day and will get back to you when I swing by the comp. Any games you want to see played list em. I'll check whats available before hand to make sure current patches etc all play nice together.

Hey guys I'd like to have a LAN at my place on either the Dec 27th (just after xmas) or Jan 3rd. Both are saturdays. Or if things are crazy maybe a pair of mini LAN's on those days. I just finished putting in my electrical for the "LAN area", and will have the network set here in a day or two. So I'd like to break it in and see how some LAN's fly. For any who's comp may be out of commission for whatever reason I do have 2 extra working comps that can be used on LAN days. Nothing fantastic but smooth enough for most of what we play. First call for dibs. If I get a few interested I'll set the dates and post relevant info. Let me know and happy holidays

Yea they look good. Not sure about the price though. I saw a simple netgear 16 port gb switch in my meanderings that comes in at $135 and has had great reviews. I think for the lan arrangement I have atm, it will be a 16 port in the one half of the basement, then thats will link over to another set of lines and ports on the other side. Otherwise I have to rerun the existing wire bundle I have in place and Im not sure I want to do that whole mess on top of new wiring side 2. From a tech question side - aside from controlling ports and access is there a performance reason to work with a "managed" switch, vs. the unmanaged ?

Not sure which forum to drop this in so will do it here: I havent shopped for switches in forever, but am debating a 12-24 port gigabit switch for the home network here. Any input on what to look for ? Whats some good priced models to look at ? Also on a price / performance comparison is it worth stringing a couple 8 gigabit switches vs. say a 16 or 24 ? Thanky.

Is L4D a 4 person only in multiplayer or how does that work ? Whats a list of "expect to plays" for this weekend and I'll try and get as much of it together as i can. Hopefully I can hang in longer if I bring the right games.

Im in. I'll throw votes at trying out CoD5 and good ole CoD4. Far Cry 2 was cool enough - maybe someone can keep thier eyes out for a fix for diamonds so we can continue using decent weapons if the server crashes.

I need to do a little organizing left over from the move, but will tenatively offer to host some LAN's. I have a spacious area to stretch it all out in in my dungeon. As the matter of fact I can actually offer people the use of at least 3 modest computer systems for gaming, just bring your own mouse and keyboard. Currently in my stock pile are 2 6' tables and a 5' table. Not really much for chairs. Looking at some generous space between people I could easily setup for 18-20 people which includes good elbow room. We have a big couch in the baesment and a big screen for kicking back and chilling out. So all in all would make an excellent LAN setup. The only stipulations are that I have 2 very young children (youngest is 2), and myself and my wife are adamant non smokers. So essentially no smoking in the house at all, but there is the possibility of going outside and a can to dispose of it in. Late night loud noise, say past 10 / 11 pm might be an issue. So if we kicked things off a touch earlier and wrapped up by 11'ish for a large group that would be fine. Or say anyone who stays past 10 just dont go screaming and stomping around. But usually at the LAN's ive been to with you guys everyones pretty cool and tame so I dont see it as an issue just wanted to put it up front there. As long as people arent rowdy we can play on as long as we want. Ive wrapped up many a LAN in the 4-6 a.m. range in the past, lol. I still have a couple hundred feet of line to that i could ceiling run cables to clean up the setup. I'd of course take up the offer for you guys to bring in the switches and the extra tables and chairs. Location we're just up Niagara Falls Blvd, so very close to where the LAN's have been run in the past here. Not really all that far away from tecboy. PM, AIM (BBGameWTH), or reply, whatever is easiest and we can work out more details.

How does it compare with CoD4 ? Im gonna give waw a try but was unsure how good the multiplayer would be compared to cod4.

Good gaming. Didnt have the games in round 2 or would have played a little longer, but not worries there. The wife was happy enough I was home in time to help put the kids to bed, lol. Im gonna try and work into Red Alert 3 over the next week or two as I get time. If any want to try that out with me online give me a holler. I know a ventrillo server we can use, and we can play over hamachi too if needed. I look forward to making the next one :guns14:
