  1. I'm in. I'm down with dogs on the grill, or a pizza. I'll bring cash.

How come we aren't using the Dome anymore? Loved their food.

I think 14 guys just bro-ing down in the pool, stewing in each other's juices sounds great.

We are still doing the Dome, it's just that we know it would be really hot up there with no AC, as for the 'bro-ing in the pool' I knew not everyone would use it as most seem to be afraid of it!

As for next month, it's Massive Lan time, and dunno about Augusts' yet...

Ah, good call. I didn't think about the lack of A/C. A basement would def be better for the summer months. Pool sounds pretty handy if it's super hot. I prefer to be water cooled.

  2. I've been training in nuclear dawn--it's got huge potential.

If you haven't heard, it mixes RTS with FPS by having 1 player be the commander--he gets a top down RTS style view and can build base structures and turrets and provide target locations and tactics to the troops. The other players play FPS style--they can see the commands and move orders. Sounds perfect for a LAN party. Good graphics too.

  3. Don't do it. It's a trap.

I thought the same thing, and bought plexiglass and angle brackets and bolts...and so on. Ended up spending near 60$ and it sucked.

I should have just sucked it up and spent the 60$ on the widescreen LCD harness.

  4. So, I've just set up a hardware raid 0 array (my mobo has built in RAID) and freshly installed win7x64 on it.

I was going to spend a few days re-downloading or restoring all my steam games and such. In the past, whenever I do a hard drive change, I've used XXClone to clone my old boot drive to the new one (it allows cloning to different size HDDs).

Can I boot from my old hard drive with the RAID 0 array as a secondary drive, clone over to it, then remove old drive and be back in business? I've never tried a clone operation with a RAID array. The RAID is 2 samsung spinpoint 7200rpm 1tb drives. Old HD is a WD 500gb.

Anybody done this, or have suggestions? Any freeware cloning software you've used to do this?

    Thanks.

  5. So, I've been playing the starcraft 2 beta a bit. I enjoyed the original and brood war quite a bit back in the day as a easy-to-play RTS.

I have mixed feelings about SC2. It's almost exactly the same as the first one.

Hold up, I realize that blizzard was pretty much locked into that. There are a lot of die hard fans of the the original, and of course the whole Korean thing. So they couldn't do anything radically different, and risk losing the fans.

Nor should they have. Why mess with a good thing, right? They've basically updated the graphics and done some well needed tweaks to the mechanics and units. So it feels like starcraft, but a little new.

And yet...if you truly looked at the original starcraft with fresh eyes, it was a pretty derivitive RTS. After playing Age of Empires, Dark Reign, etc., you could pick up Starcraft no problem. Because the mechanics and such were very similar.

I'm not bashing it, it was fine for the time.

    But we've grown since then.

It feels not like a great refresh of a classic....it feels like I'm playing a game from the 90's with fresh graphics. The camera view is still myopic. You're practically peeking out from Kerrigan's halter top. I can't imagine the Overmind ever conquering anything with such a limited field of view.

And still only 5 unit queues? No repeat function? no camera zoom out? Heavy resource management? Emphasis on micromanagement?

Don't get me wrong--its fine, and I'll buy it-but when compared with a modern RTS, say Supreme commander, it just shows that it isn't a Real Time Strategy game--It's a Real Time Tactical game. And that's dated.

  6. I went to this on Saturday. It was fun having so many people there--but there wasn't much gaming to be had.

At least 75% of people at any given time were playing single player games--mass effect 2, WOW, xbox, watching movies. Very puzzling to me.

Ah well, was okay. Played a AOE 8 player game, won some BAWLS. It was AOE2 though....which was kind of lame.

Needs some more direction ("okay, everyone's playing L4D2 now, then this game, then this") maybe.
