B.Ob.
Those are both decent sites to check for parts!!! parts list: - mother board - CPU - memory - video card - case - power supply (if not included with case) - network card, if not on motherboard - sound card (could stay cheap and try to live onboard sound) - DVD/CD drive - hard drive - keyboard - mouse - monitor
Wargasm
If you mail-order parts, you could check Pricewatch.com. They have barebones systems fairly cheap, and should cover most of the list. Then you select the other pieces from a local store, computer show or order them from another vendor in the list. Of course there is a difference. You usually get a litle better price thru mailorder, but you have to wait for the parts to come in. YOu'd pay a lot more at a local computer store for the same thing. But there is the instant gratification of buying it and taking it home. You need to weigh the $$ savings against the suspense.....staring out the window waiting for the UPS guy. ownage89
tigerdirect is usually highly fast on delivery i always get my parts within 2 days but thats only if the product is in stock which they always are but its only a few bucks for ups shipping ground not so bad
B.Ob.
Opps, I forgot the most important part, an OS. So you should buy a copy of Windows, or whatever you end up using. Of course, there are many flavors of linux/unix that are free.....
