Jeepers, someone gonna think I'm a Tribes junky or something... ;)

Tribes: Vengeance Preview

"As multiplayer games go, Tribes: Vengeance is extraordinarily challenging, in terms of the skills required just to be a well-rounded player. It all comes down to the fact that Tribes has always been radically different from most first-person-shooters. Foremost among the departures is the sheer size of the maps. A few hundred virtual square meters of area would make up a truly large level in most FPS offerings. A Tribes level can consist of acres of rolling hills, jagged cliffs, trees, snow, lakes, and multi-story buildings, not to mention the airspace above everything. Learning how to efficiently move around in the terrain takes a while in and of itself."

I wouldnt mind playing this @ the LAN...the beta should be public by then. If you've never played it before, there is a learning curve. It's not like Quake/UT where you can install the game and just change a couple keybinds.

Yeah I have to agree with B.Ob. the game industry is getting pretty bad, first interplay shut down and acclaim both pretty big companies. I'm just downloading to check games out and if I like I try to buy. But I usually try to wait till a game is on sale for $30 bucks or less, Doom 3 is the most I spent on a game in a long time and HL 2 will be another that I'll get no matter what.

THIS WEEK AT IRRATIONAL with Meredith Levine

"When Irrational decided to do Tribes, we knew we were walking a dangerous line. The company was charged with creating a great game in the Tribes tradition that would attract newcomers to the franchise without alienating the very dedicated existing fan base. Well, it has been about a week since the Tribes: Vengeance open beta went up on FilePlanet (it's not too late to register for free and get in on the action) and I think we are well on the way to accomplishing that goal.

The beta was well received by the fans and the feedback from the community has been extremely helpful. We have been able to improve the stability of the game and smooth out the gameplay. Tribes producer Tony Oakden said that thanks to all the feedback we have received from fans, our latest build is way better than the beta build. Though not everybody knows this, the difference between a good game and a great game is excellent bug-reporting... and that's what we're getting.

While we're on the topic of getting an advance look at Tribes, gamers can get their first hands-on experience with the single player portion of the game this weekend. To download the demo, head on over to gamespot.com."

First impressions: Tribes: Vengeance

"The look of the game is bright, breezy and colourful, which makes for a pleasant change from gritty realism or the shitty-brown colour schemes we tend to get served a little too often. The engine has also been blessed with rag doll physics, which adds an excellent touch to deaths in particular – frequently the defeated enemy will hang limply as their jet pack goes wild after death, sometimes sending them spinning madly before smashing them face first into the dirt."
