PurSuiT
Always saw ppl at LANs beating me into games and loading maps that had the WD raptor, so I decided to pick one up. Ghosted my OS over to the drive tonight and what a difference. Old Drive: VelociRaptor:

DaPoets
here is mine, just ran it during the LAN today.
PurSuiT
here is mine, just ran it during the LAN today. Imagine if you had the VelociRaptor's in RAID! I only want one drive in my game computer though. RAID failure has been given as the #4 reason not to come to WNYG LANs. Also want to keep the weight down, same reason I just ordered a full aluminum case (17lbs), weight!
DaPoets
Yeah I have 5 drives in my system, the case is steel, and you can step inside it incase of a nuclear explosion.

You'd need a 64bit OS to take advantage of anything over 3-3.5 GB of physical RAM. 32 bit OS'es can only address 4 GB total... that includes video card memory. SSD HD's would really show their stuff in a desktop. They suck too much power in a laptop (currently), but in a desktop that would not be an issue. Wonder what a 15K U320 SCSI or 15K SAS drive would pull on that test....
DaPoets
I think my next major HD upgrade will be the 20,000 rpm raptor

Been running a 64bit OS for 3 years now See no reason to run a 32bit OS on a 64bit CPU. 8GB of RAM is more of fact that match pairs of my XMS memory are selling for $59 after rebate now. DaPoets
I use just over 3gb of ram more often than not these days, so I do see an increase from 4gb to 6gb coming soon.
