Far Cry

OH NO! Always with the games I'm looking forward too.

Far Cry: Raid with the developers 04.02.2004 15:30 o'clock - that far Cry developer Crytek had this morning attendance of the criminal investigation department Coburg: The officials scanned the offices of the developer and the dwelling of the head of the company together with a quantity of the Bavarian auxiliary police and several computer specialists. According to first estimations of the police Crytek used illegaly software for play production and caused thus a damage within the six-digit range. Evidence was placed already surely. The law guardians had become attentive by the reference of a former Crytek coworker. Ubisoft and Crytek the procedure so far did not commentate - whether and in what respect there are effects on the publication of far Cry are not yet well-known.

From Tim Partlett

I am working at Crytek, not for Crytek. Thus I can't speak for them, but I can say that I am working happily at the office tonight, with harddrive intact, as is everyone else who wants to.

For those of you who can't read German, like me, the above link quotes Faruk Yerli as saying Farcry is going ahead "full steam". That would appear to be the case.

Last paragraph from the Gamespot update:

However, both companies addressed the most important issue to gamers--whether or not Far Cry will slip from its March 23 ship date. "The Crytek team has started working again normally as of Wednesday at 2 pm," read the Ubisoft statement. "The game will ship as planned at the end of March." The German developer was similarly soothing; "Crytek would like to assure its fans that completion of Far Cry remains on track."

Also, it would seem Halflife2 is possibly this summer/fall release. Ugh....

Maybe Duke Nukem Forever will be out before this, HL2, Doom3.... B)

Multi-player preview

"We do still know that the Far Cry team is committed to including a full level editor and thorough mod support so it shouldn't be too long after the game's released that we start to see some user-created content."

PurSuiT, what didn't you like about the demo? I loaded it and killed a couple peeps and havn't been back in to play thru it further....

Eh, he just doesn't like the fact you can't go running into a crowd of guys and expect to win. And the bad guys aren't as dumb as in doom and halflife. Probably got flanked to many times and got frustrated. Or was it the fact that the guys run for cover? Or the fact that you can die too easily, kind of like real life huh. And there's more than one way to get through the level too.

Its just a demo though. There are a couple bugs here and there. I think the AI alone is going to one up Doom and Halflife. Doom is pretty much eyecandy anyway.

You need to tell me what you didn't like Pursuit. I could tell you if its a bug or something. There's a couple of things that weren't put in the game too. :(

The graphics need work they are very rough, edges are pixelated even at the highest settings, they will most likely work that one out in the final. Don't like the fact the the guys disappear after they are dead, they should give them a decay effect, has it hard to find they're weapons with no body around, shoot and within 5 sec the bodies gone. The amout of keys needed makes it more like a simulator, I have palyed quite a few FPS's and for the most part use default settings, if I have to move my left hand to the other side of the keyboard just to do a simple function like drop a weapon there is something wrong, I realize I can bind keys, but that is one of the things I look at when playing new games (Do I have to think about where the keys are). Next, I can be hiding in the brush and can see my bullets bouncing off the leaf infront of me with a guy dead in me sights but his bullet goes right through the leaves, it a leaf not a piece of one way kevlar, this is also an issue that I think the will work out though. The last one is more with the reviews then the game, they are all making it sound as if you can go anywhere and there are no limits, which is untrue. You can not pull up over walls to sneak a look, easly add, a form of this was used in the whole Tomb Radier series. Also I think you should be able to scale cliffs. In multiplayer the AI will just go to waste for the most part and you will never see it, I think the last two thing would be better supported in multiplayer, give you more options. This game is setting up to be a snipers/campers game in multiplier either way.

If I can think of any more I will left you know.

Forgot to tell you, the graphics don't go beyond the high setting. Did you have any problems with AA or AF. Its not fully setup yet. Some people it works fine other not at all. Just not optimized yet.

True. I did notice that too. Its a little fast but the longer they lay around the more it drags your performance down. It can be adjusted in a config file for the nitpicky but should have to be.

The amout of keys needed makes it more like a simulator, I have palyed quite a few FPS's and for the most part use default settings...
True but Crytek is trying to expand on the fps, adding a little more depth. I guess this is one of the ways. You got your toggle for the grenades, I think there's 3 types, don't know what the final will have. Like most games its in with the reat of your weapons which is convenient but I like the fact you don't have to switch away from your primary weapon, especially if your in the middle of a fire-fight.

The cryvision doesn't come into play till you get the nightvision but having a different key for it is expected.

Weird how they set up the secondary fire on the weapons too. Ironside is is your second mouse button and x is the secondary fire. I'm kind of hoping you can rebind this. Of course, BF is this way but the weapons don't have a secondary fire.

I am use to playing with more keys though since I don't play many fps. And for a standard fps, I can see how it would be a bit much. But this isn't your standard fps.

Next, I can be hiding in the brush and can see my bullets bouncing off the leaf infront ...

Bug.

The last one is more with the reviews then the game, they are all making it sound as if you can go anywhere and there are no limits, which is untrue.

They mean more in terms of nonlinear gameplay. There's always more than one way to get around and kill the bad guys or maybe sneak past them. Kind of like playing Vice City. If you have to kill someone you could get a car and run them down, you could get the sniper rifle and get on top of a build and pick them off... More than one way to skin a cat.
In multiplayer the AI will just go to waste for the most part and you will never see it, I think the last two thing would be better supported in...

As far as AI in multiplayer, who cares. I don't know about you but I play multiplayer to play against real people not bots.

Its true about the sniper/campers. That could happen but it could happen in any game. You haven't seen the mp though, there really isn't that much cover like in single-player.

Now, wasn't that a better post than your first? You my age, I expected you to come up with your own opinion and have reasons to back it up like you just did. Your first post made you sound like a 12 year old just coming on to say "this game sucks" just to bash it and stur up trouble. :(

What's really sad about this FarCry thread & Pursuit is that he is bashing a "demo" of the game, which is nothing more than a NON-finished piece of work. It's only "natural" that one would find issues w/ it. U would think that w/ all the "prob's" posted by him that U are dealing w/ a finished product here. That is not the case. I myself have seen issues w/ the game BUT haven't really gotten all bent outta shape over it b/c it's pointless to do so @ this time. I'll hold onto my "thoughts/concerns" about this title till it's a finished product.

Really....I hate demo's, I dont like to install them. Its always a risk, and they arent as good as they used to be. The first Wolf 3D game had 4 levels, the Demo was the first level, complete. Now demos gove you a small portion of a level, and sometimes they arent compiled right, and are larger than the finished product. But its getting better. Remember the demo that was on 14 floppies? When installs can lock the system in a loop, so if one disk is corrupt, you could lose the OS, or at least have to mess with the config files to track down the originals. i had a few PC's brought to me in that predicament. I'd hate to see someone go thru that over a demo. B)

Hey gang, not ALL demos are bad. At least they serve the purpose of giving one the idea of what the game is about. I've been playing demo's for some time now & enjoy what they have to offer.

I'm currently enjoying demo's of...

Sacred ( combination of Neverwinder Nights & Dungeon Siege )

UT 2k4

Painkiller ( FPS )

As for Wargasm, I think he's still stuck in the "floppy disk" era of games, so he'll keep discrediting them till he himself has a hard drive crash & finally upgrades to a newer system not of the "older" age

A word from the tech producer from Far Cry on the new level

posted Mon March 01 2004 08:14 AM

All:

The Research demo was specially made for PC Gamer, and may not run properly on the public demo.

For those wondering why, it's due to our need to strip down the build of only assets required for the demo to fit on the CD requirements requested by the Publisher.

To ensure you get the proper experience, you should only run the Research demo from an original PC Gamer CD.

I think it's great everyone is trying out the mod capabilites of Far Cry; I wanted to make sure people were aware that most of the bugs I have read by people trying to merge to the 2 demos are a result of missing assets.

Thanks,

-Rich

In case anyone is having problems.

There's also a nice little surprise at the end of the level.
